The Diary of Virginia Calvert

Later on September 1 --- The Arrival

Well, when Harry and I got off the train, this big man greeted us. “Oh, Virginia, this is Hagrid,” Oh, I should have known that. “ ‘Ello Harry, I see you’ve made a new friend. This must be the Virginia Calvert Albus has been talking so much about.” Really? He’s been talking about ME?

“Oh, has he? And just what is so interesting about ME? ME of all people?” I wonder what Professor Dumbledore could have to say about me.

“He’s says you’re very bright. He even thinks you might come close to Hermione Granger,” he winked at me.

Sigh. “Oh, I met her on the train. I don’t think I like her that much. But hey, I just met her.” Gosh, I hope they don’t think I’m being hateful.

“Ah, she’s always like that around people she doesn’t know that well. Don’t worry, she’ll come around,” Hagrid motioned for me to come with him.

“Bye Harry, I’ll see you at the Ceremony,” Harry looked kind of disappointed, like he wanted to spend more time with me.

“Yeah, I guess so,” his eyes glistened like diamonds. He is so cute!

Hagrid walked over to Harry and whispered in his ear. I have no clue what he said, but I think it was about me.

“Well Ms. Virginia, are you excited about Hogwarts?” he asked me as we walked to the boats. This road is so bumpy, and there are a lot of lanterns lit everywhere. “Ms. Virginia, you will be riding in a boat with me tonight.” I don’t know why he’s even letting me ride with him, I guess it’s because Harry asked him to or something.

“Of course! Why wouldn’t I be?” Duh. Of course I’m excited. Any kid would be.

Finally, we came to the water’s edge. Hagrid led me to a boat and helped me in. There were lanterns lit in various places, so I reckoned there were a lot more people here than what I had first guessed.

The boat ride was kind of scary, but then again, it was rather exciting. I’ve been on boats since I was little, but never with a giant. I’m surprised the boat hasn’t sunk yet. I looked up and saw this great big castle in the near distance. It’s SO humungous! I can’t believe it! But hey, you got to have some place to board all those kids.

We kept getting nearer and nearer, and finally, we reached the shore. Hagrid helped me out of our boat and all of the first years followed him up the path. It was uphill for a while, and then it flattened out.

All of the first years (and me) walked up the steps to the entrance. Hagrid opened the door and led us up many stairs to yet another door. There we saw a cat on the marble floor, peering up at us and purring. The figure transformed into a woman.

“Hello students, my name is Professor McGonagall and I am going to lead you all to the Great Hall. Follow me,” so we walked up the staircase
