| Back Story: Scythe comes from an all female tribe on a remote island. Her mother is the leader of their tribe, and her older sister is in line to become the next leader. Her people make a special trip to mate with men from the mainland once every few years. There is an important ritual that is performed the first time a woman mates, which is when she turns 30. More back-story on this later. In the beginning of the story, Scythe is traveling with her Mother and sister to the mainland. It is sisters first mating, and they all very excited. During the festivities, Kylar forces attack and slaughter civilians from both the tribe and the people of the mainland. Though Scythe’s people are valiant fighters, they don’t stand a chance, and Mother and sister are killed. Scythe is not killed only because she was not allowed to be at the ceremonies, since she is only 25. Her tribe’s boats are destroyed and Sycthe is left alone, and on the run from invading Kylar troops, lead by Zendel. |
