I
feel that Burning Flame is one of the most touching and thought provoking
TVB Serial I have ever seen. Initially, I found it really boring. YES B-O-R-I-N-G,
so boring that I have to fast forward some parts. I must say that the build
up of the story is very slow and I’m very impatient. I rented this serial
happily, thinking that I can see Louis for 40 odd episodes but only to
find that he’s not the main character. Great disappointment at first but
as I watched on….I began to feel that this serial is definitely worth my
money. This is one of the few serials that manage to make me cry so much.
I’m not someone who weep at every little tragedy. The producers and scriptwriters
brought out the death scenes very well. There are 4 major deaths and they
are the main essence of the show, besides the deep friendship, bonding
and laughter the 3 musketeers (Wong Hei, Ka Lok andCheng Keng Kei) brought
out.
Death…something
that most people fear….something that as we grow up, we just have to accept
it. They brought out 3 ways of dying in the serial. 1: Due to sickness,
2: by accident, 3: committing suicide The 1st climax is the death of Ah
Yau’s mum. It’s really heart wrenching…and the way they shoot it…very touching
and “beautiful”. I must say Wong Hei’s acting is brilliant in the show.
The way he cries, the way he tries to run away from the fact that his mother
is dying. Sometimes an illness comes just so suddenly. Death can be very
sudden and life is so fragile. It’s so sudden that u find it hard to accept.
But life has to go on…In times like this, support from family and friends
is very vital. Luckily, Ah Yau has Pik Yiu to help him tie over the difficult
times.
The
2nd death, death of Ah Chui. I feel very frustrated with Ah Pak(Louis’s
Character) and blamed him for her death. Ah Chui loves him so much, so
deeply, yet he doesn’t trust her a bit. She’s deeply hurt when she finds
that Ah Pak is having second thoughts about marrying her. I’m very touched
by Ah Chui’s undying love for Pak and her words before she dies: “Ah Pak,
I really love u, I really want to marry u, to bear children for u….won’t
u forgive me?” Personally, I think she did nothing wrong, it’s Ah Pak that
should be begging for forgiveness. There’s no doubt that Pak is devastated
over Chui’s death, but everything is too late for regrets!
The
3rd death, death of a fireman, I can't remember what's his name. He died
while saving someone, a heroic death I must say. He's such a responsible
fireman who refuses to let the man go even when his ownlife is at stake.
Actually, I feel that he shouldn't have clung on to that man. He tried
his best, he cannot save that man so at least, he should have saved himself
instead of perishing with that guy. But Perhaps if he had let go, he would
feel guilty for the rest of his life, that he’s not been a responsible
fireman. I feel extremely angry when those stupid family members keep shifting
all the blame on the firemen when they themselves are in fact responsible
for the disaster.
The
last good guy to die is Ah Butt. Many people said that he’s a coward for
committing suicide. I think that it takes just as much courage to end one’s
life. When someone chooses to die, we won’t be able to understand how they
think. When life to them has become so bleak…so devastating…..and pointless……
U can see how helpless Butt looks. He couldn’t even find anyone to talk
to. Ya he found Pak, he talks to Pak but that Pak is too cool and indifferent
to notice anything weird about him. For Ah Butt, he’s always branded as
a great failure, by this family, friends and his lousy wife. He chooses
to die because he wants to do something that he decides on his own and
he does not want to be a burden to Ah Yau and Dai Hing anymore. Undoubtedly,
Ah Yau and Dai Hing are very sad over his death. They've been friends since
young...laughing together....playing together....and even working together.
Life’s
ironical, like the way those firemen try to save Ah Chui but fail. Ah Chui’s
brother wept and said: “We saved so many lives everyday, but we couldn’t
even save just ONE dearest to us. It’s indeed devastating for her brother….the
feeling….they are so close to saving her. Frankly, I like serials like
this. It’s generally funny, but when the time comes, there are also a lot
of climaxes and touching moments. Watch this serial. have a good cry, have
a good thought about life and death and hopefully u learn something from
it.
