How Am I Saved?

    "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone that believes in him may not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16, NRSV).   

    "And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent" (John 17:3, NRSV).

    "If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (St. Paul at Romans 10:9, NRSV).

    "But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace would no longer be grace" (St. Paul at Romans 11:6, NRSV).

    "But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit" (St. Paul at Titus 3:4-5, NRSV).  

Who Owns The Church?

    "For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven.  And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it" (Jesus at Matthew 16:17-18, NRSV).

    "There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all" (St. Paul at Ephesians 4: 4-6, NRSV).

Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?

    "We also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us." (St. Paul at Romans 5:3b-5, NRSV)

     "For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."  (St. Paul at Romans 8:38-39, NRSV)

    "We know that we are God's children, and that the whole world lies under the power of the evil one.  And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ.  He is the true God and eternal life."        (1 John 5:19-20, NRSV)
