Holiday Lights
Once a year Woodcroft is completely transformed by Holiday Lights, a lovely display of luminaries that line the parkway* and adjoining neighborhoods. The event is usually held on a Saturday night in early December to herald the holidays and reflect on community spirit.

The Woodcroft Women's Club sells luminary kits (candles and bags) to Woodcroft residents for the neighborhoods, and customarily has solicited volunteers to help place and light the luminaries along the Woodcroft Parkway. In the past the WWC has organized a fleet of neighborhood captains to drum up participation within each Woodcroft neighborhood. More recently, however, the club has held two sale days during which residents may purchase luminary kits at their own convenience. The WWC also sells luminary kits in bulk to other Durham neighborhoods and developments. Holiday Lights, typically the club's largest fund-raiser, owes its success to community participation.

* WWC sponsorship of lining the parkway is subject to change.

Holiday Auction
In late November or early December, the club holds its annual Holiday Auction. For club members only, this lively event is usually hosted in a member's home. Guests bid on donated items, crafts, baked goods, and services (babysitting services were a hit last year). A club member serves as "emcee" for the evening. Holiday decorations and refreshments add to a very festive evening of holiday "shopping" and socializing.

Neighborhood Yard Sale
The Woodcroft Women's Club teams up with Southwest Elementary School to hold a neighborhood yard sale each spring. It is a great opportunity to sell old treasures and shop for great bargains. While the school generously provides its parking lot, the WWC sells spaces to members of the community wishing to set up a table. The $15 fee for a double parking space goes to the club for its fund-raising coffers; beyond that, sale participants keep 100 percent of their sales. The WWC also sponsors a White Elephant Table and a concession stand, and arranges for pick-up of unsold items at the end of the sale. Weather permitting, this is always a fun and well-attended event!

WWC also contributes to the community by volunteering. This past spring several WWC members signed up for a workday to help build a home for Habitat for Humanity. Another member made extraordinary use of some WWC funds to provide Christmas gifts and holiday cheer for residents at a nearby nursing home.
