Fire Permits

Permits to Light Fires
Under the "fire & Rescue Authority Act 1990" for all fires over 2 metres square you must obtain a fire permit from your local Fire Warden prior to lighting. The procedures for applying for a permit are:
 
1.  Apply via your local Fire Warden for a permit to light fires.
2.  Notify each and every neighbour of your intention to burn, specific details  of when, where and how should be provided.
3.  Comply with the directions issued with the permit.

Please note that only your local Fire Warden can issue permits and cannot issue permits outside of their area. They may also impose such conditions on a permit as considered necessary and may direct the local Rural Fire Brigade to take charge. A Fire Warden can cancel the permit at any time.

Rural Fire Service District Inspectors have an over-riding authority to issue permits in situations where disputes exist.

Failure to obtain or comply with the conditions of a permit, is an offence against the Fire & Rescue Authority Act and penalties apply.
