Neology

Neology (aka Chris Goddard) is a producer of highly original tunes that sound like they shouldn't work, but often seem to emerge heralding a new hybrid form that is totally justifiable in its own right.

His very first effort was to take Stravinsky's fantastic 'Rite of Spring' and twist its classical dynamics into an epic piece of trip hop/jungle, complete with didg and Arabic vocals. And that's just the beginning.

This style is very much one of splicing things together and has been criticised for a lack of originality and of stealing music but this, as DJ Shadow has proven, is increasingly accepted as valid and original in its own right. Neology argues that "Its a case of getting the right mix and is an extension of the philosophy of DJing into the production arena".

Whatever the verdict, the result is clearly an interesting and stimulating one and the sound of his debut album 'Music For The Sectioned Generation' is proof of its effectiveness. This CD is an alienating mix of strange ambient soundscapes interspersed with the intense rage of some hardcore F-step. Judge for yourself by having a listen to this CD in the shop.
