Walls

One of the most important operations in house construction, and probably the most impressive in proportion to the time involved, is the erection of the outer wall framework. The methoed of erecting the wall framework will depend on the type of construction being used. In platform frame construction the wall framework is built directly on the subfloor and spiked through it into the joists. The subfloor forms a solid, level base for the wall and also provides an excellent platform for the carpenter while he or she assembles and erects the wall. The single lower plate, sometimes called the sole plate, between the subfloor and lower end of the studding, and the double top plate that is attached to the upper end of the studding, tie the wall together. They also provide a base for the ceiling and second story floor joists, or the roof rafters, depending on the design of the house.
