** Jazz Worship! This was a special opportunity to bring this wonderful accousticinspiration to Santa Cruz Angelicans. **
TOP

  • A local musical spiritual inspiration.

  • For months, a red bannerread " Jazz Worship " over the alcove of the parish hall. EVRYONE I talkedto thought it said ' Jazz "Workshop"'! .. In spite of stuttering advancesand 'three stooges' press releases, the Jazz Missionaries played to a fullhouse on December 31, 1994 , ringing in a new year, and starting a seriesof "midnight" mass musical interludes On Sunday each month (usually the first Sunday) through-out the year of 1995 at the Calvary Episcopal Church, another outline to God. These folks are cool, Anglican and the acoustics are phenomenal and the vibes are clear, evrything in there comes out awsome. The gatherings have been treated to 14 hour - long concerts and some variety functions. My friend Winky told me: "this (hall) was meant for music" (and everywhere there were smiles).

Liturgical accompaniment and spiritual inspiration were key components using traditional and contemporarydiatonic modes and 'standard' (piano bass, drums, sax) quartet jazz instrumentation.

Art Alm, Daniel Green, Ken Dalluge, Woody Parker, and John Hablib, together with choral and parishvoices, created the sonic setting for worshipers at the 'RedChurch Downtown' 532 Center St.Santa Cruz, Ca. 95060

The Reverend David J.Jonesand His flock.

He has risen indeed. THIS MUSIC "will sonically soothe the anxiety " of cultivating this tinier world as leader and arranger of pop,Broadway, and original selected environmentally tinged 'standards' , selectinga hard, angular songlist with environmental themes.
