 "50th Anniversary"

BULLETIN

St-Patricks Academy Old Boys Association Inc.

Dear Fellow Members:

Its official! The date for our annual steak supper has been set for August 15th. This year is special as we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the purchase of the camp property on the shore of Stoke Lake. It must have been a thrilling moment 50 years ago to end the search for a suitable place for a summer camp and to finally take possession. But then the trials were just beginning. Over the years many Old Boys from several generations have devoted time, effort and skill to make the project a success. Donations over the years have helped keep the finances healthy and good use is being made of the facilities by local people and by scouts, guides and other campers. The camp and the association are being managed by a group of interested and active members and lots of future projects are being considered. So what are we waiting for? Lets CELEBRATE. Come to our annual steak supper and have a ball. Activities will start soon after noon on Saturday August 15th. There will be old photographs of St-Pats and the bell from the chapel will be on display. This is an old QCR train bell which was thought to have been lost and was recently retrieved. There will be a chance to visit the camp, see the improvements to the Parker Building and parking area as well as the waterfront. Corn on the cob will be available in the afternoon thanks to the efforts of Gerry Largy and his crew including Brother Philip who is expert at cooking and serving corn. We hope that Mike Butterfield will be around to cook the steaks as he has done so expertly for many past years. After supper there will be disco music and dancing and maybe the chance to win a prize. The cost will be $10.00 per person with beer at $2.00 a bottle and wine at $1.00 a glass. Please give us a call at 878-3366 not later than the 10th of August and let us know you are coming. This is the camp phone so you just need to leave a message(area code 819).

The Brother Joseph fund has brought in over $900.00 so far, enough to buy 2 kayaks! Robert Walker from Moncton, N.B. wrote to say that he had fond memories of Brother Joseph who was able to supply him with used hockey equipment which he would otherwise not have been able to acquire. He also remembers the old hockey dressing room, shovelling the rink and taking down the boards. Bob says that Brother Joe "was a tremendous man who loved sports and did everything he could to help those involved. He was greatly respected by me and my brothers and parents". This letter was accompanied by a generous donation and a promise of more to come. Please let me repeat; your donations are important and will be used for sports equipment and services unless otherwise indicated. We have also had correspondence from James Walker of Pierrefonds and Andrt Gervais QC of the firm of advocates MeMaster Gervais of Montreal. No we are not being sued only urged to keep up the good work.

Oh and we have two new Life Members: Bernard Cameron of Sherbrooke who graduated in the early SOs and William B. Murray recently retired from the world of commerce who graduated in 1947 and is presently living in Dorval. Henry Wdowiak called looking for Henry Crochetieres telephone number. He said that his brother Ed's wife had died recently in Halifax. Our sympathies and prayers to the bereaved. Albert Kinkead assures me that the camp has never been in better shape with all the buildings clean and painted and ready for inspection. He hopes you will all come to the steak supper and spend some time visiting the premises. You may bring guests, just let us know how many are coming. Regular meetings will resume at the Elks Club on the last Wednesday of September. Well thats all for now, enjoy the Summer and come

celebrate our 50th anniversary. John C. Murray MD, President
