The Supernatural

Everything about Jesus was supernatural; however, a time had come when Jesus' composition became supernatural to the nth degree. In his post-resurrection days on earth, Jesus occupied a form which, on one hand, was solid while, on the other hand, was unlike anything of this world. In Jesus pre-resurrected form as his miinistry began, little was natural except his body of flesh, though that was unnatural in its genetic constitution. Why? As you recall, he was conceived of a woman and fathered by the Holy Spirit.

In his purely supernatural state, before Christ went to the cross, (1) he walked on water, thus defying gravity; (2) he defied time in transporting the boat in which he and his disciples zoomed to the other side of the lake "immediately"; (3) he created and multiplied matter (despite a natural law stating that matter is neither created nor destroyed) in the feedings of the five thousand and the four thousand plus their families; (4) he placed a coin in a fish's mouth to pay his and Peter's taxes; (5) he spoke with Elijah and Moses in his transfiguration, and so forth.

Subsequent to his resurrection, Mark 16:12 tells us that , "Jesus appeared in a different form..." Once resurrected, Jesus donned a type of supernatural, supernatural form. He had to. Who had ever gone to hell and returned? The fact of the matter is that in his risen form, Christ was contained in a bodily form in which he had never existed before, body whose blood had been shed. Yes, Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, but Lazarus' lifeform remained the same: unsupernatural. Jesus, having met two disciples on the road to Emmaus, walked with them, talked with them, and stayed and ate with them -- all the while they did not know that he was Jesus himself. Luke 24:30 says this: "When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight." It is this disappearance from their sight, right before their eyes, that constitutes another supernatural-to-the-nth-degree act of the now resurrected Jesus. On another occasion, John 20:26, says this: "A week later his disciples were in the house again... Though the doors were locked Jesus came and stood among them..." At that time, this supernatural, supernatural side of Jesus could move through such barriers as walls. Prior to this occurrence, such a feat had not been previously demonstrated.

Though spirit-like in his resurreected form, Jesus consisted of solid matter as well. In Mark 24:39 Jesus says, "Look at my hands and my feet... Touch me and see..." Later Jesus ate broiled fish in their presence. All of this is so hard to believe when people live in be the natural, natural person; that is, in an unregenerated form. But it is not so hard to believe when people can be in the natural, supernatural state, a state in which one has received Christ and has thus become a child of God. You can become supernatural today by receiving Christ and becoming indwelt by the Holy Spirit.
