Have you ever had someone come up to you and ask you a silly question like, "Hey, Jack, my you're looking good. How long have you been dead?" Although such a question might have been asked to be funny, if we've ever really looked the way we have felt, or if we have ever really felt the way we sometimes have looked, it's no laughing matter. After that, do we ever run to find a mirror in which to come alive.
If once you had joy and lost it, you can come alive again. If once you had peace and had it stolen or had happiness and reclklessly threw it away, you can come alive once more. You can come alive and enjoy this life until it leaves you. Better yet, you can come alive today and you will be alive for eternity. If you are a person who can say "I've been there and done that, then this is for you cause there's likely still something you haven't done and some place you might not get to.
If you are all but dead emotionally, if your life's view is hard and your will is soft, you can come alive again. If your time in church is more of a detention and you've lost your attention, you can come alive again today. Remember, it does not matter where you go in this life; it matters more where you go in the next life. It does not matter who is preaching but it matters what he is teaching. Remember it's not the denomination of your soul but it is the dedication of that soul. To whom is it dedicated is more the question and is it really dedicated is the back-up question.
In Luke 15:24, in what is known as the parable of the prodical son, the father of the lad who is returning home after squandering all his inheritance says of this son, "For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and he is found." When you come alive in Christ spiritually, you not only receive a new beginning, but also a new mandate, a new set of instructions.
When the elder brother learned that the younger had returned home from his life of self-destruction, and that his father was preparing a celebration for this wonderful homecoming, the elder brother became angry. He whined at his father and in so many words said you never did anything like this for me but for this bum of a brother you're doing it all. His father replied in Luke 15:31 by saying, "Son, you are ever with me, and all that I have is yours." The father wanted the elder brother to be happy because the younger had come alive again. He had come to his senses. He had repented of his ways. Now remember that his father said, "For this my son was dead, and is alive again."
If you are a mother or a father, did you not come alive when suddenly you first that firsborn come to life? If you are a person who has attended a hockey game, surely you came alive when the River Rats scored that winning goal. Wrestling fans get really animated as though they are in the ring with the opponent themselves. Watch their legs. Watch them shake their fists. Basketball fans do a little jump off the bench when a crucial basket is made. All of them come alive.
But any coming alive other than a coming alive in Christ is but fleeting, ephemeral, evananescent. People come alive and die again until the next score, point or body slam. They come alive for split seconds and minutes until they actually die a physical death, at which time it is too late to ever come alive again. But for those who will accept to come alive in Christ, your coming alive will light you up for an eternity. Jesus says in John 8 verse 12, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." Give your life to Christ or accept Christ into your heart. Is this the something you haven't done? However you want to say it, just come alive and believe Jesus when he says in John 14:6, "I am the way the truth and the life: no man or woman cometh unto the Father, but by me." Don't let heaven become the place to which you'll never go. Be there and do that.
