Too Smart For Heaven

The Pharisees conspired to trip up Jesus in Matthew 22:15 in an effort to prove that he was not who he says he is. Their too-smart-for-heaven question was, "Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?" Jesus replies, and says, "Render...unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. In essense, Jesus says, first obey the laws of the land regarding this matter, then obey God's laws on the latter. Pharisees have always elected to find the way in which they could prove that Christ is not the Son of God.

Numerous people today who belong to the too-smart-for-heaven group have their own skill-testing question to prove that Jesus is not the Saviour of the world. As a latter-day Pharisee, do you have one? If you are too smart for heaven, the light in an otherwise dark room of your mind as a result of receiving Christ, will never come on. What, indeed, is it to look like you are going to heaven and never end up there? You know, not all people who fold their hands in a praying formation, pray. Not all people who walk through church doors get to heaven some say. Not all people who kneel have a heavenly keel. Really, not all in the pew go to heaven; nor will you...unless... unless you receive Christ as Lord and Saviour.

Many are too smart for heaven and they fool others in their proximity, but God is not buying pretense. He's not buying outward appearances. He's not into saving manniquins, stiff necks, wooden hearts nor heads. God tells all who are willing to listen (1) that they can be too smart for some, but not for the kingdom to come; (2) That they can be too clever for most, but not for the Captain of the heavenly Host; (3) That perhaps they can dupe all mankind, but that he (God) is not blind. Matthew 7:21, says "Not everyone that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven." I guess it is time to face it: Outward appearance does not warrant heavenly clearance.

In John 14:6, Jesus says to you today, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes unto the Father but by me." Know it from this time forward that no person on this planet is smart enough -- let alone too smart -- to slip past Jesus to get into heaven. In effect, being too smart for heaven has you trying to find some other way. Being too smart for heaven has you putting it off till some other day. Being too smart for heaven has you believeing what so many others say -- that there is no God. But Psalm 14:1 says, "The fool has said in his heart that there is no God." Whatever else you do in this life, don't be too smart for heaven. Catch the light.
