Many Prefer to Serve a Dumb God

Dying is not an hypothetical inevitability. Hebrews 9:27 says, "...it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment..." For certain, believers know of a future judgment for them, while non believers, though they will have theirs too, won't accept it until it happens. Many hope that grace follows death, but, in truth, grace precedes it. Ephesians 2:8 says, "For by grace we are saved through faith..." In short, you cannot be saved after death, all of that must occur before.

Whether you believe in God or not, you get to know the truth regardless. If you do not serve him, why not prepare your case now? Will you say as you stand before him, "Since I did not believe in you, you do not exist and therefore you have no authority over me nor my eternal whereabouts? Despite what anybody says, Romans 14:11 reads, "...every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God." Verse 12 says, "...every one of us shall give an account of himself to God."

If you die without Jesus as your Saviour, you will die for a dumb god, that god you elect to worshp other than Christ. Whatever god it is that keeps you a non believer, be it your smooth idea, your slippery argument, your I-know-better attitude, your belief in primordial stew. Whatever your reason, you will stand before a God you refused to accept, let alone serve. Don't let a dumb god take you down. Let the one true God take you up.

Are you one who wants your God to hear you when you cry for help, and go immediately deaf when you curse and swear and tell coarse jokes? Visit illicit internet sites? Or tell the big one? Pit people one against the other? Or verbally abuse or terrorize your loved ones or your students or friends or congregants or others? Many act as though they can place ear plugs in God's ears so that he misses the bad and catches only what they want him to hear, like, "Help! I'm falling!" on their way over a cliff. Or, "Save me, I'm drowning!" as they begin to sink halfway across the Restigouche River. Or, "Deliver me from this evil!" as the enemy comes to claim their souls. If that defines you, you are one who really wants dumb god.

By the same token, many who claim to serve him and call themselves Christian will never enter his rest. Many want their god to go blind while they participate in some pretty reprehensible things. Often they want God to see them when they do something nice, and say, "Did you catch that, God?" But when scamming, conniving, conspiring, or ganging up on the person fit for such pirhannas as some, a myopic god, becomes the god of choice. Many want a god who is deaf, dumb and blind to their transgressions, but they want a really smart god when it comes to others' misdemeanors. Aren't we something?

So many people die for their dumb god when they don't have Jesus as their saviour. They think that God wants team players who won't play as a team, who wont pass the puck or the ball. What God wants a football team with half backs not half wits, quarter backs and not snorter backs, running ends and not book ends. Those who do serve him, however, will do so forever. Why not consider it?
