The Write Way

Not writing XF fanfic but still need help?

The Lyrical Side of The X-Files

Poetry doesn't always rhyme, and lyrics don't always need music to touch us. Check out the collection of XF fan poetry and filks here.

The Purple Crayon

A great site for anyone interested in writing children's books...

Strange Realities, the XF Alternate Universe Archive

At this archive, anything goes. If Chris Carter were dead, he'd be spinning in his grave.

Creative Writing for Teens

Actually, this is for teens who want to write, not people who want to write about them. But it's a great resource for writers of all ages!

Further X-Plorations

There are lots of mediocre episodes that have spawned fabulous fanfic! (okay, there are good eps too...) Sift through these stories and try not to despair at all the great scenes that are missing from the show...

Guide to Writers Conferences and Workshops

Why not learn about writing from the best? And in fabulous places all over the world? Here's a great resource for writing conferences, retreats and other programs!

MSR LIBRARY

Valentine's Day is fast approaching, as well as Mulder's return! In honor of "twoo wuv" our link this month is the MSR Library. Okay, we're shippers, what can we say? For those who equate MSR with black oil, check out The Shipper's Nightmare or The Doggett House.

SCREENWRITER'S RESOURCE CENTER

Got an idea for a great X-Files script? Well, before you do anything, read Megan Reilly's article on "How do I submit a story to 1013?" Then head over to the Screenwriter's Resource Center, where you'll find links to books, software, scripts, magazines, message boards and much much more.

If you think writing fanfic is hard, try choosing between all the great stories for this year's Spooky Awards! Though we don't believe in comparing artistic merit, Working Stiffs congratulates all the Spooky finalists and winners.

WRITER WORKSHOPS

Was your New Year's resolution to write that story that's been burning a hole in the back of your brain? Or to learn more about writing? This is a great place to start, but where to begin! Just sift through the sections, and you'll find what you're looking for.

Got a few hours? Or months? Then head over to The Annex, an archive devoted to novel-length XF fic. Romance, mythology, suspense–it's all there. The creative stamina of fanfic authors never fails to impress, and The Annex is a perfect example. Why bother buying another official tie-in book when you've got this?

SCIENCE FICTION & FANTASY WRITERS OF AMERICA - Articles on Writing

Articles on everything from submitting manuscripts to world-building and monster-making. Don't forget to navigate through the rest of the SFWA for great information on the business of writing science fiction and fantasy, book reviews and the famous "Preditors and Editors" link.

The Motherlode. In the Beginning, there was Vincent's Archive. Now, there's Gossamer – a warehouse housing almost all X-Files fanfic written over the last seven years. If you're looking for XF fic, where else would you start?

Did you know that over half of all paperbacks sold in the US are romance novels? Romance Central has some great articles on the craft of writing romance, but most of them could be applied to any popular fiction, including fanfic.

EPHEMERAL

Another staple of the fanfic reader's diet. This alt.tv.x-files.creative auto-archive goes back several months, and can be easily searched. If you can't find what you're looking for at Gossamer, chances are it's at Ephemeral.

INKSPOT

Check out articles, interviews, market guides, and a monthly e-mail newsletter (Inklings) on writing and publishing in all genres and forms. Really a fabulous resource for any writer!

THE PRIMAL SCREAMERS' HOLIDAY ARCHIVE

"Here you will find all of our favorite holiday classics, including Thanksgiving, Hanukah, Christmas, and New Year's. These are tales that remind us of the true spirit of the holidays: Muldertorture, smut, getting drunk... Oooops, okay, so we're a twisted bunch. But don't let that scare you off! There is plenty of schmoop to be found on this page as well, so light the Menorah, put on some Christmas carols, fill up the eggnog, or whatever it is that you do to put yourself in a holiday mood, and enjoy!"
