While growing up my family camped in tents and as we got older my parents purchased a large travel trailer. When I got married and had children (3girls) we decided to go camping... In a tent, the tent was good size and I knew how to put it up and set up camp, but my husband had never camped before. Wanting him to enjoy his first camping trip I did all the work. We were at the Myrtle Beach, SC . Well camp was set up and we had grilled out before going to the Grand Strand for some fun. Tired and wore out we all hit the sack around 11pm. The last words my husband said was this isn't so bad. The youngest of my girls was 2 and she got on the cot with me. Early morning I awoke to wetness, thinking "Oh man she's wet the bed" But as I stirred around looking for the diaper bag. I felt water in the tent. I quickly looked out side, and there was water all around. and the wind was blowing real hard. I woke everyone up and we jumped into the car. My husband turned on the radio and guess what? We were in the middle of Hugo the hurricane. The police had at this time started announcing evacuation. What were we going to do ...Well you guessed it. We left all of the camping gear and everything else and hit the road.
I learned one big lesson. Always check the weather station, and take a radio. We now have a travel trailer and listen to the weather station all the time........
