Creatures
There
are many unique creatures and monsters, both magical and non-magical, in
Greyfeather,
one
of the most common being rocs.
Kensak
I, landing on the coast of Greyfeather for the first time, observed
that the area was covered almost entirely with grey feathers dropped by
the huge birds roosting on the coast. The elves who greated Kensak
when he landed told him that the rocs were everywhere along the coast,
coating the coastline almost all the way around the island with grey feathers,
giving
the island it's name.
The following are more rare creatures known to inhabit Greyfeather.
Utbird: An Utburd is the ghost-like form of a child who died by horrid means and it's spirit could not gain release to depart the land. They are extremely rare and evil by nature. It usually manifests itself in ghost form, attacking with its hands and causing severe cold damage as well as a Death Cry, the cry of a child that turns into a wail. Those who hear the Death Cry can be frozen in fear, at which time, the Utburd will attempt to enter the body of it's victim. The Utburd's personality is then switched with the victim and only a Restoration spell by a cleric of patriarch level or higher, cast at the time of the possession can reverse this. At Utburd that is in non-corporeal form can only be struck by magical or silver weapons. An Utburd can be turned by a clerics, who can then attempt to grant the Utburd release by casting Remove Curse on it.
Seglek: Seglek's are a hybrid race, accidentally created by an evil mage during the Age of Heroes. He collected the blood of orcs, ogres, bugbears and trolls. After mixing the blood and casting the proper Necromantic spells, the Seglek was born. They proved to be great warriors, with the intelligence to become wizards and wisdom to become shaman's, but their temperment was unstable and the wizard found them near impossible to control. Eventually, they killed the mage who created them and formed their own tribal culture. With the troll blood they found they had regenerative powers. They prefer using polearms as weapons, but are capable of using almost any weapon. Although they formed their own tribe, reproduction was difficult, with only 1 in every 4 Seglek child surviving to adulthood, so their numbers aren't large. They can be found in the mountains and hills of Greyfeather. Forest Dragon: The Forest Dragon is a castoff of the normal dragons. It began as a dragon born without wings. The creature was shunned by the flight dragons, left to die in the forest. To the dragons surprise, the castoff survived in the forest and lived a normal life. It learned to hate it's winged brothers as well as all living creatures. In a rare display of creationism from the Shadow Queen, to propigate the species for her own ends, she created a female wingless dragon. Forest Dragons are built powerfully due to having to walk across land on all fours, which gives them a powerful attack of claw/bite/tail sweep. The Forest Dragon can swallow an opponent of medium size or smaller whole. Diamond Dragons: Diamond Dragons are the rarest dragon type in Greyfeather. According to most Greyfeather sages, there are only 25 known to exist. They rarely interfere in human affairs, preferring to remain to themselves, sometimes even shunning other dragons, seeing them as inferior. The breath weapon of a Diamond Dragon is a shower of razor sharp glass shards in a cone . As they age, they gain additional powers. The Diamond Dragon can employ up to 6 attacks at a time in combat. It can use claw/claw/bite/wing buffet/wing buffet/tail sweep, if the situation presents itself. Since it is intelligent, it will usually attempt to parley before entering into combat. Due to the shape and hardness of it's scales, there is a chance that, if a spell is cast directly at it, it will rebound back at the caster. Since it is a gem dragon, it is psionically capable. Grey Dragon: Grey dragons are an abomination created by the famed wizardress, Nedora, known as the Shadow Queen. She thought she could take tissue from each of the evil dragons and use it to create a super dragon. In part, she succeeded, but she found that she could not control the result and it almost destroyed her. The two surviving Grey Dragons fled to the mountains and began to procreate. Luckily, their mating cycle is short and the success rate of hatchlings isn't overly good, or the land would be flooded with these evil beasts. Despite their powerful claw attacks, the Grey Dragons are two headed, which means they gain two bite attacks and they can never be surprised, as one head is always alert. Even with their powerful physical attacks, it's their breath weapon that is the most feared. It is a black cloud of negative energy, which drains away levels of experience to those caught in the cloud. It must be noted, this beast has two heads, which means it can use it's breath weapon twice in the same combat round. So far, there is no actual count of how many of these horrid beasts exist.
