Sonu Nigam as an Anchor in SaReGaMa
SaReGaMa aired on Zee TV and directed by Mr. Gajendra Singh is a foundation stone in the career of Sonu Nigam. He is the heart of the program. He pumps blood into the program and thus is the life of SaReGaMa. His spontaneity as an anchor is greatly appreciable. He binds everyone on the set as he is in good relation with everyone whether the director, spot boys, musicians, his co-workers, judges, participants or audience.
He keeps the audience in full zest and involves them in the program. He handles all types of situations, like if any participant forgets few lyrics of any song he prompts and helps the participant sing the song. On an average he does three episodes in a day from morning till night. He goes to different places, not only in India but abroad also, to shoot the serials. He does his job with full dedication. Sonu Nigam has now left SaReGaMa. The last serial of SaReGaMa with Sonu Nigam as host was telecasted on 5 June 2000. I am sure that this news has broken hearts of many of his fans as the long association they had with him through this program has broken with this change. His fans used to wait for the program to see him
and hear his voice. But fans, he has left SaReGaMa as he has now taken up acting in movies apart from playback singing. Now you can see him perform on the songs sung by him.
Perhaps, his own understanding of music is superior to many of those who come as judges in his show. Sonu himself, though, refuses to admit this. Don't the judges sometimes get flummoxed, specially in the chord round, you ask him. "Rarely, but it does happen," he concedes. "It's strange -- chords are something that should be an inherent part of musical understanding, but it doesn't seem to be so. You either understand them or you don't. Most people do. If some judges don’t, then we work out a strategy whereby I have a particular expression which says this is right and another one which says this is wrong!"
Sonu Nigam as an anchor in Red Ribbon Show
Smita Thackerey's Mukti Foundation started a program called 'Red Ribbon Show' on Star Plus channel. This program was hosted by Sonu Nigam where he used to interview two celebrities and a person infected with HIV/AIDs.
What made you anchor The Red Ribbon show on Star Plus?
Actually that wasn't a full fledged programme. It was meant to be a curtain
raiser for the programme on AIDS awareness held in Mumbai on the December 7,
1999. I was interested in doing it because the concept appealed to me and it
was only for 14 weeks. I enjoyed it because I got to interview Amitabh
Bachchan who has been my idol since childhood.
