Thursday, March 27 - Men Free Program Practice
A Gift for Tomas
Group 1 - Most of the skaters in this group exited the ice before the full warm up had ended. Vakhtang Murvanidze took his bows when the beginning of his music for his run-through came on. Kevin Van Der Perren exited last.
Group 2 - Stanick Jeannette was having jump troubles and screaming out audibly after each one that he missed. He also tripped while just stroking along the ice in his run-through. Poor guy.
Group 3 - Emanuel Sandhu left out the jumps in his run-through. I couldn't figure out if it was intentionally planned that way or if the jumps just didn't take off. He practiced well the choreography and spins.
A young woman sat in the row in front of me toward the middle of the practice for the men. She carried a nice looking SLR camera with a great lens and was showing it to me after I inquired. Emika was from Nagano, Japan and had attended last years Worlds. She carried a gift bag also with her. There was a man sitting a few rows behind us who was straddling the barricade in front of us to go back and forth from backstage to a seat in the stands as he had a backstage pass. Emika caught him as he was going backstage again and asked him if he would give the bag to Tomas Verner. The man told her he would go backstage and check to see if Tomas was still around. He returned a few minutes later and informed her that Tomas had already left. His practice group had been earlier that day. Emika asked if there was a gift table backstage where the gift could be left for Tomas, but the man shook his head and seemed apologetic. I knew the feeling of having something you really wanted to give to your favorite. I asked Emika if she wanted to bring the gift to the ice during the Men free program that night. She replied that she thought it would be too difficult due to security checking tickets in order to allow entrance into the lower sections. She told me that her regular seat was also not in the lower level. I hoped she would be able to find some way to deliver the gift to Tomas.
