Thunder of Peace
Jarus' clear, alert blue eyes and disarming smile greets them as he speaks with a booming energetic voice, "We are here today... to celebrate peace!"
The crowd breaks out into wild applause and begins to fervently chant again, "PEACE NOT WAR! PEACE NOT WAR!"
Jarus does more than silence the crowd this time before he speaks-- He calms them.
As silence once again washes over the crowd, Jarus begins, "My father was a teacher… a healer… a leader… but most of all he was a man of peace. We thunderously chant 'peace not war', but what is peace? Is it merely the absence of war? Or is it more? Is it merely the absence of anger or hate? Or is it harmony and love in every aspect of our lives?"
Jarus moves in front of the podium as he continues, "Once we know what peace means to us. Each and everyone of us. We can effectively and more easily focus on and achieve it! So ask yourself... what is peace? And then expand your mind beyond that. Reach for the deepest peace possible... not just what you might think is possible."
Jarus pauses momentarily before continuing, "Peace means there is NO 'us vs. them'. Just US! Together. As ONE. It is not simply the absence of war, but simply... peace."
Jarus moves closer to the hushed audience as if readying to impart some secret that only he knows, and they now have the privilege to hear. The crowd has become quiet, opening their hearts and minds to the eloquent words he speaks. It is as if he is being guided by a power beyond himself to speak wisdom that rings deep in the hearts of all who hear as they eagerly drink in all that is said.
"You cannot stop war by waging it. You cannot bring peace by angrily shouting it. You cannot make other people hear your message if they cannot or do not WANT to hear. Instead of making others be peaceful, be peaceful yourself. The greatest gift you can give to the universe, and to yourselves, is to make your own life work; is to fill your own life with peace; is to be who you are without making others be who you want them to be."
Then Jarus stops and simply states, "THINK peace; LIVE peace; BE peace; breathe it in from your surroundings." He says as he takes a deep breath seemingly drawing it from all about him. "And by your life you will thus TEACH peace."
Just then an AUDIENCE MEMBER shouts out, "But how can we have true peace when so many others choose to make war?! We can't just let them keep doing it!"
Murmurs of agreement sweep through the audience.
Jarus answers, "My father taught me, that once, long ago there was a highly advanced civilization. One perhaps even more technologically advanced than our own, a civilization poised on the brink of self-destruction. A civilization lost in the fear of each other… locked in a battle of wills, locked in a battle of who was right and who was wrong. They had a choice. Peace through truth, love, and respect for all others... or self-annihilation through hate, fear and blame."
Jarus shakes his head as he continues, "They did not choose truth. They did not choose love."
Jarus moves closer to the audience, "WE now have that choice... may we choose wisely. Do not FORCE others to see what you see, but allow them the space to see it. Teach those who are willing to learn, and let go for now those who are not. For in this way your efforts and energy will bear the greatest fruit. It may seem now that your task is daunting, but with perseverance,focus, and determination in a very short time you may come to find that there are even more teachers than students!"
