Shed Seven is... a band whose singer looks like Pongki of Jikustik *laughs* (I
glare at her). My favourite songs must be Devil in Your Shoes and
Lies... my favourite member used to be Tom, but I think it's now Fraser!

In
the beginning I saw a video on MTVs rare Alternative sessions - a band called
shed seven make me freeze to the chair I was sitting on.
Never heard about them anymore the following month but I saved it on video and
saw it over and over again.
Here in Germany there is a similar situation – went from Music Shop to
Music Shop to find something about shed seven.
No chance to get an Album or even a single of them. Then there was the
possibility to get to England ( Hull )
und that is not so far away from York and I bought everything I found in the
record shops
- (wasn´t very
expensive at that time)
Later in Germany you could get the later released Albums if you order them and
have the time to wait 5 weeks.
I didn´t really like She left me on Friday and the Truth be Told album but Shed
Seven is still my favourite band
- I didn’t hear much about
them
- sometimes thought they were
dead.
There were bands like MARION , RADIOHEAD or GENE and VERVE
that filled the hole between the shed albums.
It was really nice to hear that shed
seven is still in the business
- not like MARION (much like shed) .. they split after their best album
THE PROGRAM supported by Marr (THE SMITHS)….

hope I did it the right way)
I can be said as a late Shed Seven fan (I just began to like them in 1998), but
I had known them since the glory days of Britpop (Champagne Supernova, Parklife!!!,
Disco 2000, Beautiful Ones, Neighbourhood: how beautiful...) [err, right,
mate... -- TP], '96--'97. Isn't that sad? But I had already
fallen for 'Going for Gold', with its nice beat. I also like 'Speakeasy'.
Shed Seven has their own sound (which cannot be defined by mere words), I mean
if a Shed Seven song is being played on the radio, without getting told which
band it is, I'll surely know that it's them! Especially Rick's voice, it's
very unique. (actually he wrote, 'Rick my best mate...' :D).
They're very British, after all.
And you're really inspired by The Rolling Stones, eh, Rick? 'Out by My
Side' was made over the tunes of The Stones' 'Backstreet Girl', right?
My one wish that I really hope be fulfilled by Shed Seven: GET ON STAGE IN
JAKARTA!

If asked about the meaning of Shed Seven's music to me, I'll answer:
everything! The one thing clear is that the Sheds is part of my teen
years. The start was when I watched the video of 'Ocean Pie' circa 1994
(?). I even forgot what the TV station was. The beat and the lyrics
made me jawdropped. I had never heard any song like that one. I even
once owned a band, not a commercial one. Only a band for mates to flock
together. The name's Under the Pink after a Tori Amos' album. We
tried hard to play Ocean Pie. I was satisfied enough to sing "I don't
need to be... I need to survive".
The waiting for the next album by the Sheds was verrrrry long. A waiting
interrupted by Radiohead's The Bends. Then came A Maximum High. We
playbacked the cassette every year in the following two years! Even after
Let It Ride, A Maximum High was still my must-play cassette. Then one day
it was gone... I dunno whether it was left in my friend's car or somewhere
else. After that, and after the demise of the Britpop disease in
Indonesia, I can only say: Good luck you who search for the CDs/cassettes by
Shed Seven here [in Indonesia -- TP]! It's as if there has never
been any band called Shed Seven that once released some albums in
Indonesia. Only other so-so bands. True, there are some good new
bands whose albums are released here. But still Sheds' songs are on my top
playlist.
So what is the meaning of Sheds' music to me? Still everything!
After I began working -- a job that has things to do with the internet -- I also
began to find things about Shed Seven again. There's magic in their sounds
that forced me to still be in my teenage years.

Actually, I only own 2 Shed albums: Change Giver and Going for Gold. The first time I
heard Shed Seven was when I was in the 2nd year of high school in Palembang [a city in Indonesia--TP],
and the song was Ocean Pie. The video was played by SCTV [one of Indonesia's TV stations--TP] every night.
At that time, Oasis' Live Forever was also a high-rotation video too. The one thing I remember best
about Ocean Pie is the intro and the lyrics: ...You got the key to the oooooceannnnnnnn!....
After having the album (in cassette form), I only played the Ocean Pie because I still felt uncomfortable somehow
with Shed music, and also because at that time I was into grunge and Oasis. In 2000, I found out my old cassettes
(including Change Giver) and played the album wholly. That was the start for me to 'adaptate' (if I can call it that)
with Shed music, which, if you judge with a plain mind (sic), is different from the others. I like Speakeasy the most,
then Head and Hands (from the first time I heard the album, actually, because of the strange and unusual intro
beat), Missing Out, Stars in Your Eyes, etc. Before I knew the lyrics I only played the songs on a guitar and sang with
words arranged up by myself . In the same year (2000) I tried to open up Shed's website by only guessing the address
(www.shedseven.com) but didn't get connected (argh!). Shed's albums are rare here. It seems like (as far as I heard in
Going for Gold), Shed's music sounds more like Stone Roses, especially Rick's vocal.

I like Shed Seven since the Dolphin-era... but after Change Giver somehow they appear to be lost [I'm sure that what Diah means
here is that she didn't hear anything about Shed Seven after their debut--TP]...I also like all of the following albums
(except Truth be Told, because I haven't heard of it, and that made me cry because it wasn't released in this country!)
I also regret the fact that I didn't buy the Going for Gold CD straight away when I saw it...because I didn't bring money with me at
that time... I thought that I could come and buy it any other time, but when I did come back it was sold out...
Anyway, I think that their music is always developing towards a better direction. It always becomes better with every
new album. Change Giver was very rock and raw, and then Maximum High with the very cool brass section. And in Let it Ride, they seem
to have firmly found the right form of their music. But the band has never lost their unique 'Shed Seven' Britrock-characteristic. Their
changes are in short always positive, unlike Oasis that always sends me to sleep now (they're fine at the start, but suck right now).
To make it all clear, I'm a deeply saddened fan because I don't own the complete collection of Shed Seven's albums!
Since Change Giver, my musical taste always refers to Shed Seven (you know what, all of my cousins became to know and like Shed Seven because of me!) But
up until now I haven't fulfilled my one dream: owning a band that plays tribute to Shed Seven because I haven't find anyone that knows and can play their
songs...T_T
And do you believe that I haven't watched any of Shed videos up until now?
