The King of Glory shall come in

Taken from Psalm24. This chant may have been used to commemorate the returning of the Ark of the Covenant to the Temple at Jerusalem. Legend says that as the Ark approached the Temple the people in the procession would call out at the Temple gate, "Open up and let the King of Glory come in!" From inside, the priests would shout "Who is this King of Glory?" Outside would come the unison reply from the prople, "The Lord, strong and mighty." The priests would ask the question again to which the response "The Lord, mighty in battle!" The temple dorrs would swing wide open. This exchange would serve as a lesson to all Israel, especially the children, of who God is. It is recommended that this chorus be learned and sung with two groups singing to and answering each other as in the original Psalms.
