The True Power

Men and women throughout the Ages have been lured to serve the Shadow by promises of power and immortality.  Among these men and women were people capable of channeling the One Power.  These Dreadlords were among the most feared of the Dark One’s servants.

Among these Dreadlords, the most favored were given a special privilege - the ability to channel the True Power.  Such

is the name given to the flow of the Power which flows directly from the Lord of the Grave.

A person channeling the True Power cannot be detected in the same manner as someone channeling either saidin or saidar.  Obviously, this would make fighting a wielder of the True Power exceptionally difficult.  The inability of a servant of the Light to see weaves of the True Power made these favored Dreadlords exceedingly dangerous.

However, the True Power has dangers of its own.

Men and women develop an affinity over time to the feeling attained by channeling the One Power.  Trying to draw too much of the One Power and burning out is a constant danger faced by every man and woman who can channel   The True Power is even more seductive.  While its use involves a pleasure bordering on pain, it is impossible over time to resist the urge to draw too much of the True Power.  Even the most strong willed would eventually give in and kill themselves by drawing on too much of the True Power.

Another side effect of using the True Power is the saa.  The saa are small black flecks which cross a person’s vision as their use of the True Power progresses.  The more a person uses the True Power, the more the saa appear.  However, the saa do not actually affect the person’s sight.

These dangerous side effects mean that those given the privilege to touch the True Power rarely make use of it.  Those who are wise use it in only the most dire of circumstances.  However, the ability to touch this flow of Power directly from the Dark One translates to a powerful advantage for those fighting against the Light.
