HEBREWS 8: 1-13

1. Before we move on, please record one new insight into the BETTER COVENANT that you gleaned from last week’s lecture from the end of Chapter 7. How was it a personal blessing to you to realize this?

2. From Heb 8:1-2, state the “point” of what the author has said so far in y our own words. What makes the ministry of Jesus unique and superior to any other? Read Psalm 110:4 (again! Like last week!) , Matt 26:62-66, Mark 16:19-20, Col. 3: 1-4. Now answer, what do you see as the significance of Christ seated at the right hand of God? Further, what is the significance of Christ seated at the right hand, of God?

3. Heb 8: 3-5. Read Lev 9: 1-7. What do you learn from that passage about the reasons for or results of sacrifices and offerings? Now read Heb 7:26-28…How are the reasons and results of Lev 9 fulfilled in Jesus?

4. Hebrews 8:6. From the following verses, summarize the ministry of Jesus. Luke 19:10, John 14:2-3, Romans 15:7-13, II Tim 1: 8-10.. Now with the help of Eph 2:11-15, 3:6-12, and Luke 1:68-75…summarize what the covenant of Jesus is. Define mediator, from the dictionary. What does it mean that Jesus is the mediator in this new way?
• What new appreciation or understanding of Ex 25: 1-98, 40 comes from Heb 8:1-6?

5. Heb 8:7-9. By reading verses 7-12 along with 10:1-17, what can you learn about the inadequacy of the first covenant?

· The prophet Jeremiah records the new covenant (31:31) What else does he reveal about Israel in Jer 7:22-28? In light of how the covenant people behaved, what is amazing about God’s decision in Jer 31:33-34?

6. Heb 8:10-13. The new covenant has a new mediator and better promises. Name 4 promises of the new covenant found in vs. 10. Which of these is most significant to you, and why?
