Homework for HEBREWS 7: 1-17 -  due WED FEB 4

THIS IS THE LESSON ON THE PRIESTHOOD OF MELCHIZIDEK

1. Please be sure you have done the "Hebrews review" questions from last week's homework (check the website...)

2.  Now read Chapter 7, verses 1-17 carefully. Look back to chapter 6: 19-20, and also look up Genesis 14: 18-20, where we have the Old Testament story of Mechiz (for short) recorded... List at least 4 ways that Melchiz is "like the son of God."

*How do the following verses make Heb 7:4 a remarkable statement? Gen 12: 1-3, 13: 14-17, 22:15, 24:1.
From Heb 7:7, "without a doubt" implies certainty--what is the author so certain of?

3.  Who is Levi? (Gen 35: 22-26, Num 3:1-13).... What law is spoken of here? (Lev 18:1-5)...what is a tithe? (Lev 27:30-34)

4.  Read Gen 14: 18-19, Isa 55:8, Psalm 110:4--what do you learn about God from these verses that might have surprised a law abiding Hebrew Christian?

5.  Psa 110:4 is quoted to prove what is stated in v. 11...?  IN your own words, what has the author now implied about the Aaronic priesthood?  Why is what is stated in v. 12 so "mind-blowing" to a traditional Jew?

6.  Read verses 12-14.  What are the problems if the Mosaic law remains unchanged?  How do Jer 31:31-34, Romans 8:1-4, and Romans 13:8-10 express the character of the "new law?"

7.  Fill in the blank...Jesus is a priest not on the basis of __________but on the basis of ________.. From Col 2:9-3:4, how would you explain this superior qualification? What does i t provide for us, practically and personally? How could that impact your DAILY LIFE THIS WEEK!

Live in HIM this week! He has provided EVERYTHING we need through Christ
