HEBREWS CHAPTERS 1-6 (overview)
1. Re-read the first half of Hebrews.....Slowly and in a new version--enjoy it!
DO it all at once in a quiet place, an keep a notebook at hand. What do you
notice for the first time? repeated themes? How prominent would you say the
character of Christ is to this author?
2. Find and trace key themes of the book (whether new to you or not)------list
one for each chapter so far. What would you say are the "top 3"
themes of the book of Hebrews? The #1 theme--WHY?? and why does this matter?
3. Do you remember(from lectures or notes) the 3 audiences? WHY is this
important? List all 3 audiences to whom this author ( I think, Apollos!)
wrote...
How is that THIRD audience so key, and why?
4. As the author describes the SUPREMACY of Christ in this book, we want that
picture of Jesus to fill our minds, too. Make a list of all the NAMES for
Christ that you find in Chapter 1 alone (hint: there are at least 8!!) Beside
each one, list why that name is important to you/central to our faith.......
***Extra Credit: Now list as many of the "Christ is better
than......" Titles of Lectures that you can remember!! This will test your
memory, for sure!
5. What is a major sin warned against time and again in the book of
Hebrews?--see chaps 3:7-19 and 4:1-3. Describe why this sin is so deadly! and
apply it to your own life's circumstances right now....(hint: we ALWAYS have
occasion to fight this sin!)
6. We are moving into the practical FAITH AND LIFE LESSONS part of Hebrews--
what would you say is your biggest "FAITH CHALLENGE" in life
right now? Why? write it down--ask God to meet you through WOW on that area
