Hebrews
9:11-28
- From last
weeks lecture, what spoke to you or stood out in a new way regarding
Christ’s High Priestly
ministry? What picture from the
tabernacle was meaningful to you?
Was there a personal application you could make regarding
this? Is your picture of our God
“bigger” because of Hebrews…and
how so? (Be specific and be
grateful!)
- Verses
11-14 present a contrast of the earthly high priest and his function and
Christ’s (better) High Priest work.
What strikes you?
- Vs. 14 is
a “how much more” verse
- How much
more ______ what? (describe in your own words.) Look up these “how much more” verses and state them in your
own words.
i.
Romans 11: 17-24 (difficult, read slowly – a picture of
Israel being cut off and we Gentile believers being “grafted in”)
ii.
Hebrews 10: 28-31 (ouch!)
- Read
Hebrews 9: 15-22. What point is
being made in verses 16-17?
- The book
of Hebrews has since its beginning emphasized “new” or “better”
things.
- From
verses 18-22, what has not changed or been
improved upon?
- List methods
people employ today to avoid the teaching that forgiveness requires the
shedding of blood.
- What is your
honest reaction to this concept?
- Why is
verse 22 so pivotal – not only in the chapter but to the book?
- Read
Hebrews 9:23-28.
- List
phrases that basically repeat the themes already presented in Chapter 9.
- How could
you explain the reason for this repetition of ideas?
- On the
basis of what Christ has already done, is there anything yet to be done to
provide salvation?
- Which
verses support your answer?
- What does
remain to be done for those whose sins have been taken away?
- Which of
the ways in which this section of Scripture states the work of Christ to
be superior to the work of the earthly sanctuary is most important to
you? Why?
