Homework
Due: March 3, 2004
Passage: Hebrews 9: 1-14
Review - Our Great High Priest – Hebrews 8:1-13
- Which of the major themes either
from Chapter 8 or from the lecture given on February 11th on
- the New Covenant priesthood of Christ, - the Tabernacle, proved most interesting to you? Why?
- What have you gathered from the
study of Chapter 8 that contributes to changing your attitude or actions
in life?
The Former Place: Hebrews 9:1-5
- Read about the initiation of the
Tabernacle in Exodus 24:13 – 25:9: 27:20-21. (Indicate what verses led to
your answers.)
- What determined the contribution of
building materials?
- What determined the form of the
Tabernacle?
- How long was it to last?
- Give a brief account of the stories
of
- “the gold jar of manna.” (Exodus 16:32-34)
- “Aaron’s rod that had budded.” (Numbers 17:8-10)
- “the stone tablets of the
covenant.” (Deuteronomy 10:1-5)
- Why do you think the author does not
want to “discuss these things in detail now”?
The Former Practice: Hebrews 9:6-10
- Read Leviticus 16:29 – 17:14
- List the lessons you find God
teaching the newly formed nation of Israel.
- God Himself established the
sacrificial system. From this
passage what do you learn about “blood” that was essential to the
sacrifice?
- Review Hebrews 7:22-8:13. How does this heighten your understanding
of 9:9?
- From verse 10 explain…
- “external regulations.”
Why were these not long enough?
- “the new order.”
(Review again 8:8-13) How
does this supply what the “external
regulations” lacked?
- What have you learned about the
effect of “external regulations”
on people in general by carefully observing people and situations in your
own life?
- Have you personally experienced
some effect of external regulations that would help validate the thesis
that “external regulations” are counter-productive to holiness? If so, please share.
The Final Presentation:

then try to state their meaning in your own words.

Hebrews that helps explain “acts
that lead to death.”
