Review - Our Great High Priest – Hebrews 8:1-13

 

  1. Which of the major themes either from Chapter 8 or from the lecture given on February 11th on -  the New Covenant priesthood of Christ, - the Tabernacle, proved most interesting to you?  Why?

 

  1. What have you gathered from the study of Chapter 8 that contributes to changing your attitude or actions in life?

 

The Former Place: Hebrews 9:1-5

 

  1. Read about the initiation of the Tabernacle in Exodus 24:13 – 25:9: 27:20-21. (Indicate what verses led to your answers.)
    1. What determined the contribution of building materials?
    2. What determined the form of the Tabernacle?
    3. How long was it to last?

 

  1. Give a brief account of the stories of
    1. “the gold jar of manna.”  (Exodus 16:32-34)
    2. “Aaron’s rod that had budded.”  (Numbers 17:8-10)
    3. “the stone tablets of the covenant.”  (Deuteronomy 10:1-5)

 

  1. Why do you think the author does not want to “discuss these things in detail now”?

 

The Former Practice: Hebrews 9:6-10

 

  1. Read Leviticus 16:29 – 17:14
    1. List the lessons you find God teaching the newly formed nation of Israel.
    2. God Himself established the sacrificial system.  From this passage what do you learn about “blood” that was essential to the sacrifice?

 

  1. Review Hebrews 7:22-8:13.  How does this heighten your understanding of 9:9?

 

  1. From verse 10 explain…
    1. external regulations.”  Why were these not long enough?
    2. the new order.”  (Review again 8:8-13)  How does this supply what the “external regulations” lacked?
    3. What have you learned about the effect of “external regulations” on people in general by carefully observing people and situations in your own life?
    4. Have you personally experienced some effect of external regulations that would help validate the thesis that “external regulations” are counter-productive to holiness?  If so, please share.
