WOW HOMEWORK DUE WED NOV 12
Heb 4:14-5:10
CHRIST OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST
- While
still fresh in your mind, write out at least one specific application you
emerged with from the lecture on HIS REST…..what change of attitude or
action do you need to make to enjoy His rest in some particular?
- Read
the text, 4:14-5:10 thoroughly, then go back and list every attribute of
Jesus named in these verses. (get them all!) Now write verses 14-16 out in
your own words, and record it in your journal (wherever you keep notes re:
spiritual goals/progress!) How do these truths re: Christ encourage you?
- Go to
Leviticus 9:1-7 to look at the high priest’s role under the Old Covenant.
Note the following: who was the designer of the sacrificial system? Where were the specific purposes of the
offerings?
- Compare
Lev. 16:1-6, 11, 15-17 with Heb 5:1-3.
List at least five facts about the work or person of the human high
priest.
- Do you
see any significance in the change from the name “Jesus” in 4:14 to the
name “Christ” in 5:5? Who or why not? (See Acts 2:36)
- The
Old Test. Quotes in 5:5-6 come from Psalms 2 and 110. Look up these Psalms
and record anything else you learn about the Messiah there.
- From
verses 7-8, what did Christ do on earth that enabled him to serve as our
great High Priest? To what
event/nite of Christ’s life do you believe vs. 7 refers? (extra credit:
what was His central struggle that nite? How can that encourage us?)
- What
is your understanding of vs. 8? Take a dictionary and look up the words
“perfect” and “mature,” as these words are often used synonymously in
Scripture.
- Now
note their meaning in the
following verses: II Cor 13:9, Eph
4:13, Heb 6:1.
SEE YOU WED NITE!
