WOW HOMEWORK : HEBREWS 4: 1-13
DUE WED NOV 5
- Read
3:7-19, then 4:1-2. What is being
warned against? How do you explain
the significance of the pronouns “us” and “you” in vs. 1? Think about how this exhortation could
apply to the church today.
- Just
what is the gospel referred to in 4:1-2?
How does its very nature exclude its reception by “hearing”
alone? (See 3:5-19) What is the
difference between people who only “hear” the gospel and those who hear
and “combine it with faith”?
- See
Hebrews 4:3-6. In what way does
John 14:23-27 confirm the idea of “entering” God’s rest?
Who are “they” that did not enter
God’s rest (v.6)? Why?
Who are the “some” that enter
God’s rest? Why?
- See
vs. 4:7-9. Locate and briefly
describe the different “rests” spoken of in 4:1-9. What is the author suggesting (v.9)
when he says a “Sabbath-rest” remains?
- Read
Joshua 1:1-3, 13:1, and Judges 1:1, 2:6-12. What is Hebrews 4:8 confirming?
- Use
John 6:28-35 and Galatians 3:1-3 to discern what “work” must be finished
by those who follow God.
- How do
you understand the “effort” (vs. 10-11) that must be made in order to
enter God’s rest? In what way is
vs.13 both a warning and a comfort?
- Respecting
the reliable Word of God – read Hebrews 4:12-13.
a. What two attributes of God do you find presented in these verses?
b.
In your own words, what does the Word of God do?
c.
In your own words, what does God see?
- From
these two verses (4:12-13), what do you learn about God that has an impact
on your personally?
