Renaissance Faire

After our August meeting we will be riding to Bristol, WI to attend the Renaissance Faire. Tickets can be purchased at a reduced rate at Cub Foods. For those of you who did not go last year, this is a beautiful ride and the Faire is great fun. Expect to spend the whole day. Great food, lots of fun and wonderful crafts.
Lets try to get our meeting done on time if not early so we can get out earlier.

The Gamblin Run

Unfortunately only a few of us showed up for the ride to Ho-Chunk Casino. You missed a beautiful day for riding and Debby outdid herself mapping out the route. She also came home with some money.
Shoulda been there!

Upcoming Events

Davis Rally in Iowa in on September 8,9,10. I believe Marge Theissen has some information about this rally.

Suggested Rides

Our "Ride Guide" is in. Most of the rides are in Wisconsin and Indiana. There were some travel books passed around at the meeting. Some members took them home to see if any good ideas for rides would come from them.

New Glarus was talked about for a cheese and chocolate run on a Sunday. It seems more people are available on Sunday. Lynda will make some calls to be sure the proprietors in New Glarus are open on Sunday.

Bring your ideas to the next meeting.

Chicago Tribune

We were listed in the transportation section of the Tribune on July 23rd. There has already been one response.

Colonial Restaurant Colonial Cafe seems to be working out well for our meetings. If you have any input let the membership know what's on your mind.

Treasurer's Corner

It's that time of year again! $10.00 contribution for 1/2 year are needed at this time. Please mail to: Martha Alexander at her home (Her address is on the roster) or bring to the next meeting, which is August 19, 2000 at 9AM at our new location, Colonial Cafe on Rt. 14 in Crystal Lake.

We haven't seen you and we've missed ya. Please come and join us. Until further notice, Colonial Cafe is our meeting location and 9 AM is the time. While the weather remains nice, we plan a ride immediately following our meetings. Of course the ride is optional but we'd love to have all members and their families join the rides. Bring your friends too!

BE HAPPY, RIDE

We love riding and it is a part of us. We meet people who don't understand why we love riding so much. They probably do not understand the whole motorcycle instead of a car thing in the first place. So here are twenty reasons (slightly modified from the original), some serious, some lighthearted, why people motorcycle, and we all can relate to most if not all of these reasons.

  1. No matter what anyone tells you, any brand of motorcycle is just cooler than being in a car on a beautiful sunny day.
  2. When we ride a motorcycle, you become a part of the machine, leaning with the bike; in a car, you are merely a passenger.
  3. Women find men on bikes way more attractive than they really are.
  4. Men always find women on a bike may more attractive that they would be in a minivan.
  5. Riding a motorcycle is just tremendous fun - better than anything else with your clothes on.
  6. Speed is addictive and motorcycles feel fast - but be safe!
  7. Rarely, can a car do a wheelie - again, be safe!
  8. Riding a bike through the twists and turns on great roads is exhilarating. Much better than being in a car.
  9. Spring smells nicer on a bike; actually, all the smells are magnified when on a bike.
  10. Riding is enjoyable away from lights, such as provided by the car.
  11. Getting caught in a warm summer rain - any feeling compare to that?
  12. A car does not make you want to get up really early on a Sunday morning to try and drive 500 miles. A bike - it begs you to!
  13. Owning and riding a bike is an excuse to buy lots of accessories, from leather to tools.
  14. Owning and riding a bike means you have to learn your bike - not just drive you car to the mechanic. Plus, you can park the bike inside under the Christmas tree - not a car!
  15. No matter how much work is waiting for you at the job, or how long it takes you to get somewhere, the time you spend on your bike en route makes it all worthwhile.
  16. Riding a motorcycle is a stress reliever - makes you a nicer person than the car drivers.
  17. No matter what shape you are in, you can justify wearing leather pants when you ride a bike.
  18. You meet the nicest people on a motorcycle.
  19. The feeling you get when kids in cars wave at you as you cruise down the road is priceless.
  20. Riding a motorcycle makes the journey as exciting as the destination.
