Welcome to the Red Hawk Riders
Meeting of September 18, 1999

The sixth meeting of the recently chartered Illinois Red Hawk Riders was held this past Saturday, September 18, 1999, and what a beautiful, sunny day it was! Those in attendance were: Marge Thiessen (until today a mere voice o'er the phone), Maxine Smith, Monica Rice, Monica's friend, Christine Seifert, Elaine Bukovec, Joanne Moreau, and Suzanne Palm.

Director, Lynda DiGregor had previous commitments to attend to and was therefore missed by all in attendance.

The meeting began at 11:12am sharp, on Keif's Reef's lovely deck overlooking the Fox River, with the following topics to be discussed: 1) Compile a 2000 calendar listing the rides and/or events in which we'd like to participate, 2) Discuss a "Ride of the Month" and what it would include, 3) Determine interest in the WOW 2000 Ride-In.

So without further adieu, here are the results of our meeting…

2000 Calendar suggestions

We came up with several Day-Rides and several Weekend-Rides but did not pinpoint the exact day or month we would expect to go on the rides. Riding "season" was determined to be somewhere between May and November.

Suggested Day Rides

  • Alpine Slide at Chestnut Mountain/Stagecoach Trail
  • Sauk City ride for discount HD clothing etc
  • Lake Geneva
  • Starved Rock
  • House on the Rock
  • Poker Run for Sparrow's Nest or battered women's charity
  • Woodstock Swap Meet - May?
  • Renaissance Faire
  • Woodstock Swap Meet - Sep?
  • Toys for Tots - Oct?

Suggested Weekend Rides

  • Amish Country Cedar Lake, IA
  • Amish Country Arcola, IL
  • Amish Country / Spoon River Drive Knoxville, IL
  • Davis Rally IA - Sept 8-10?
  • Lake Le-Aqua-Na, IL
  • WOW Ride-In – TBD
  • Door County - in the fall

Concerning the coordination of the Red Hawk Riders' poker run, the suggestion was made that instead of stopping only at bars, that we could stop at coffee shops, motorcycle stores, and other fun places of common interest.

It was also suggested that we contact the Sundae Riders (or other WOW chapters, for that matter) and attend a ride or two with them as they go to many of the same destinations.

Ride of the Month

We decided that we'd like to have a Ride of the Month, that it should immediately follow the monthly meeting, and that it should probably include stopping for lunch somewhere along the way. We also decided to rotate the responsibility of planning the Ride of the Month one month ahead of time.

Marge Thiessen volunteered to plan a Wisconsin day-ride for next month. (Thanks, Marge!)

WOW 2000 Ride-In

We decided that the interest in attending the WOW 2000 Ride-In would be easier to determine if we knew when and where it was going to be this year.

Suzanne volunteered to look it up on the web and bring the information, if it was available, to next month's meeting.

Other business:

  • Copies of officers' duties were distributed to the appropriate officers.
  • Monica Rice joined our Red Hawk Riders chapter of Women On Wheels (Yay, Monica!).
  • Updated member list with pertinent information was requested.
  • The question of whether or not we meet year 'round was asked. Answer: Yes, we do meet year 'round.

The Red Hawk Riders chapter of Women On Wheels meeting was adjourned at 12:00pm.
