Mr. Thomas Beanal or commonly called Thom Beanal is the Big Tribal Leader of Amungme Tribe, who inhibit the Southern Region of Timika, where Giant Copper and Gold Mining Companies: Freeport McMoRan and Rio Tinto are have been opearting since 1963, far before West Papua's political future was not determined according to the international standards of practice. He is the Deputy Chair of the Papua Presidium Council, just the same as the previous New Guinea Council and Mr. Theys Hiyo Eluway is the Chair. Mr. Beanal is also one of the Commissaries of the Freeport Mining Company, appointed after a long struggle (seeking lawsuit against Freeport in the states' court but he was turned down) for more than 5 years against the Land Rights violations and Environmental Destruction in Timika as impacts of the mining operations. He is the Chair for the International Diplomacy and Politics on behalf of Papuans. He has a close relation with the USA key people who are concerned about human rights and environment. He went to the states several times for political and business (for Freeport) lobbies. Drs. Willy Esau Mandowen, MA is professionally a Senior Lecturer of TEFL at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Cenderawasih University, Abepura, West Papua. In politics, he is the brain of all games. He plays it well and he understands what to do next when things turn into impossibles. His political tie with Thom Beanal is like flesh and blood, one cannot function without the other. The same also in dealing with Freeport. ding CIA and Indonesian intelligence to divide up the struggle and to pro-long the independence of West Papua until they take all resources from West Papua and they engineer the Papuans to become Indonesians. Papuans are not alone, Indonesian students declared their support for West Papua independence in the Papua Congress II 2000 in Port Numbay. |
