HOW THE DAYS OF THE WEEK HAVE BEEN NAMED

 

The seven days of the week were named after the seven celestial bodies that were observed to move in the sky.  The positions of stars are relatively fixed, while the sun, moon and planets shift.

 

SUNDAY -- The Sun

 

MONDAY -- The Moon

 

TUESDAY -- Mars

 

WEDNESDAY -- Mercury

 

THURSDAY -- Jupiter

 

FRIDAY -- Venus

 

SATURDAY -- Saturn
