I am having trouble with the express tools and rtext. My template has rtext in it, but when it first opens, MDT doesn't recognize it. Is there something I am supposed to do to make MDT recognize express tools? Thanks Brian

Did you install it, when you installed 2004? Mike

Msg3 From: Chas
Type in RTEXT at the command line and pick the rtext bounding box. Then just cancel and exit. It sgould now display. We've seen this behavior as well. It seems RTEXT needs to be loaded to display the rtext entities. Chas

Typing RTEXT does get it to work. But, this is going to be very annoying if I have to do this every time I start MDT. Autodesk: Can you look at this and make it work without having to type RTEXT on the command line?

Msg5 From: Kevin Terry
Works for me already, they can't fix something that isn't broke.. I wish I could remember the setting that affects this, is it demandload? somthing about always loading arx's. Kevin

Msg6 From: Kent Keller
Yup, works for me also.
Sounds like you are right about demandload... this is from the variables tool in Express tools 8^) Mine is at 3
Specifies if and when AutoCAD demand loads a third-party application if a drawing contains custom objects created in that application.

My DEMANDLOAD is set at 3. It doesn't seem to affect the rtext working. Something I noticed thought, is that when I enter a value in for demandload, it only takes 1 or 3. If I enter 0 or 2, it changes back to 3. What does this do on your computers?

Msg8 From: Kevin Terry
just re-read your original post, did you install express tools? it is a separate install from 2004... Kevin

I thought I had it installed when I installed MDT. I re-installed from the CD, and now it works fine. Chas, if you are reading this, you may want to re-install from the CD also. It's hiding in \bin\acadfeui\support\express\setup.exe on the MDT CD. Thanks to everyone for helping me to get this figured out. Brian

Msg 10 From: Wm.J.Townsend
Type DEMANDLOAD at the prompt. It should be set to 3 for most items to load automatically. -Bill Brian Putnam wrote: > I am having trouble with the express tools and rtext. My template has > rtext in it, but when it first opens, MDT doesn't recognize it.
