Portraits of Nicolaus Copernicus

Portrait from the ephitaphium in St. John basilique in Toruñ (about 1580 AD)
Note the Christian Cross above one shoulder and the model with the earth at the centre above the other.
The position of his could his hands could indicate contemplation or prayer.

You can see that this woodcut was taken from the portrait.
The symbols of the church and science are not present.
His hands are now holding a flower!
(Was he a botanist as well?)
