Wraith Squadron

This page will tell you all about Wraith Squadron

Formed by Wedge Antilles shortly after the Battle of Thyferra, when the reformed Rogue Squadron could not immediately be re-assigned, Wraith Squadron was made up of the degs of the New Republic's fighter pilots. Wedge felt that there were some potentially great pilots who just needed another chance, and formed the Squadron with the help of Wes Janson. The group was originally designated Gray Squadron, but Wedge allowed the team to choose its own name. Tyria Sarkin came up the name Wraith Squadron, named for mysterious phantoms who were supposed to live under the beds of young children.
Among other names proposed were Dinner Squadron - under which the squadron actually performed a mission - and Silly Squadron. Shortly after the Wraiths participated in the destruction of the Razor's Kiss, Wedge returned to Rogue Squadron, but remained in command of the Wraiths. The Wraiths quickly proved their worth as an infiltration team, taking out several key Imperial installations and providing valuable support during the hunt for Warlord Zsinj. After the defeat of Zsinj at Selaggis Six, they were disbanded as a starfighter squadron and turned into an Intelligence force working for Airen Cracken. Their insignia as a starfighter group was a white circle bounded by a blue band and two gold rings. Within the white circle were twelve images of X-Wings, flying in formation from lower left to upper right. The lead ship was larger than the others arrayed around it, and all were black in color.
On a side note: Wraith Squadron was founded under a bet between Admiral Ackbar and Wedge Antilles.
who the winner fo that bet was will be reveiled in the books and i dont want to spoil everything.
I will now show the info of some of the members in Wraith Squadron.
In the following discriptions of the membrs of Wraith squadron, no spoilers were added. this is just informatiom about them before they joined the squadron. I didnt want to spoil the ones that were reading the books.
if you do want more information about the Wraith's please E-mail me.
Garik "The Face" Loran
this man, a native of Pantolomin, was best known as a child actor who worked in a multitude of Imperial propaganda films. His face became a symbol for the Empire, and his films were responsible for large jumps in Imperial recruitment. Just as he was trying to get into more teeen-aged roles, he was captured by Alliance extremists who showed him what the Empire was really all about before they planned to execute him for aiding the Emperor. An Imperial attack on the rebel outpost resulted in both sides being decimated, and Garik himself sustained multiple injuries. He hid from the remaining Imperial, and eventually made it back to Pantolomin. His parents then shipped him to their homeworld of Lorrd, when he recovered from his injuries and decided to join the Alliance. His "death" was reported shortly before the Battle of Yavin, and broke the hearts of many young girls. Among most of the Alliance personnel, Garik was known as "The Face" because of the popularity of his cherubic face, although the battle left him with a few scars. He bought his own A-Wing, and trained in it on his own. He eventually became a pilot with Comet Squadron, but was forced extra-vehicular in order to avoid a proton torpedo. In his debriefing, Edor Crespin told Loran that he'd never amount to much, and would never repay the debt he owed the Republic for serving the Empire. Loran snapped back, telling Crespin that he was "just following in his footsteps." Crespin demoted him from pilot ranks, and Loran thought he'd never fly again until he made the cut to join Wraith Squadron. Loran also served as te squadron's insertion expert and part-time cook.

Ton Phanan
this native of Rudrig was a pilot with the New Republic, and he was one of the original members of Wraith Squadron. Ton was the only son of parents who had him late in life, and they both died before he finished his education. e served as a doctor aboard an Alliance medical frigate during the Battle of Endor, but his ship was hit by a barrage of Imperial laser fire. A structural beam fell on him, causing massive amounts of damage to his skull. As a result, he wore a prosthetic headgear that covered most of his face, but his remaining blue eye and flowing moustahces gave him the appearance of an Imperial warlord. The prosthetics were necessary because Ton was allergic to bacta. He served as Wraith Squadron's medical officer.

Tyria Sarkin
this blonde-haired woman, a native of the planet Toprawa, was member of the Antarian Rangers and was one of the first pilots to serve in Wraith Squadron. All members of her family were killed when the Empire subjugated Toprawa, after it was discovered that the plans for the first Death Star were transmitted from there, and she survived using her ranger skills until the New Republic rescued here. She had a small sensitivity to the Force, although a short series of training sessions with Luke Skywalker led him to believe she didn't have the depth of ability to become a Jedi Knight. This shattered one of her dreams, because she longed to gain more strength with the Force. However, the New Republic wanted her to train as a pilot, hoping that her sensitivity to the Force would make her a better pilot. By her initial scores, she wasn't cut out to be a pilot. She was approached by her commanding officer, Colonel Repness, who had altered her failing grades to make them passable, then threatened to blackmail her if she didn't assist him in stealing an X-Wing. She refused, and Repness had her thrown out of the training program, citing "gross insubordination." However, her scores were good enough to attract the attention of Wedge Antilles, and she became part of the Wraiths. Her training with the Antarian Rangers allowed her to become the squadron's scout. It was Tyria who came up with the name "Wraith Squadron."

Kell Tainer
a human male from the planet Sluis Van, Kell was one of the first pilots to serve in Wraith Squadron. His real last name was Doran, but after the death of Kissek Doran, his mother changed their name and tried to start again. Kell served as a mechanic at the Sluis Van Shipyards, before they were destroyed during the struggle against Grand Admiral Thrawn. He then joined the New Republic and was a demolitions expert with Page's Commandos. Kell then demonstrated an ability to fly starfighters in simulation, and was given the chance to try the real thing. However, after he crashed a Z-95 Headhunter and an X-Wing in practice - claiming unresponsive controls each time - he was demoted from the pilot ranks. Wedge Antilles was impressed enough with his abilities, though, to offer him a spot with the Wraiths. When Kell realized that Wes Janson -the man who was forced to
shoot down Kissek - was also part of the Wraiths, he balked. Wedge Antilles maneuvered him into staying with the Wraiths, however. Kell served as the Squadron's demolition's expert and it's backup mechanic.

Falyn Sandskimmer
this woman, a native of Tatooine, was one of the first members of Wraith Squadron. As a pilot from Tatooine, she was continually being compared to Luke Skywalker, a comparison she chafed at badly. She joined the Alliance in order to prove herself, but remained behind Luke's shadow. This led to what her commanding officers described as a "chronic insolence" and an inability to keep her mouth shut. Despite already being an ace pilot, she was constantly passed over for promotion and demoted after her outbursts, and came under the notice Wedge Antilles during the formation of the Wraiths. She made the cut, partly because of her ability to fly Y-Wings as well as X-Wings, but mostly because of her piloting skills. She was also the squadron's acquisitions agent.

Voort "piggy" SAbinring
this Gamorrean male was one of several non-humans the Empire performed experiments on, in an attempt to improve the intelligence of certain races to levels at which they could understand Imperial commands and act as soldiers. Known as subject Gamma-9104, Voort was given several brain-enhancing surgeries that expanded his span of concentration and increased his mathematical abilities, but his vocal apparatus were incapable of conveying the Basic language. Thus, he was outfitted with a translator unit which he wore around his neck. He was the only known escapee of the Binring projects, since all the others were either killed or committed suicide in an escape attempt engineered by their creator, Tuzin Gast. Voort took his opportunity and escaped from Imperial control, fleeing to the Alliance. There, he expressed a desire to become a pilot, and took a name which denoted his "creation." He eventually became one of the first members of Wraith Squadron, and was given the nickname "Piggy." His last name is a derivative of the company that "produced" him, Binring Biomedical Product. As a member of the Wraiths, Piggy was the group's hand-to-hand combat expert. He was also the strength of the squadron, and his skills were invaluable during the hunt for Warlord Zsinj.
Myn Donos
a native of Corellia, Myn Donos was one of the first pilots in Wraith Squadron. As a member of the Corellian militia, Donos earned his Corellian Bloodstripes as a sniper. As a Lieutenant with the New Republic, Donos was given command of Talon Squadron shortly before being placed in the Wraiths. When Talon Squadron was almost completely lost in an Imperial ambush on Gravan Seven - Donos being the sole survivor - he was demoted, but came under the attention of Wedge Antilles when he first formed Wraith Squadron. He was, at one time, awarded Corellian Bloodstripes by the military on Corellia, but he stopped wearing them shortly after the debacle on Gravan Seven. He also became quite morose, and was very introverted during his early days with the Wraiths.
Hohass "Runt" Ekwesh
this Thakwaash was one of the first members of Wraith Squadron. Like most Takwaash, he was covered in short, brown fur, and had a cascade of chestnut-brown hair falling from his head. Although he stood just under two meters in height, he was known as "Runt" to the rest of his team, because he was the smallest of the children in his family. His size allowed him to pilot a starfighter, and he joined the New Republic to fly. However, the Thakwaash characteristic multiple minds became his undoing, as the pilot mind would weave in and out of command and leave him bewildered in several situations. He was chosen for duty with the Wraiths because the pilot mind was quite intelligent and was a good pilot. Runt also served as the squadron's physical trainer.
Lara Nostil
this was the alias adopted by Gara Petothel, following her escape from the destruction of the Implacable. She used the alias - that of a young farm woman orphaned on the planet Aldivy by one of Admiral Trigit's raids, then forced to be his concubine - to gain entrance to the New Republic's starfighter corps. She was approached by Garik Loran and Ton Phanan, both of whom hoped she would help them expose Colonel Repness' blackmarket schemes. She agreed, but used her own Imperial Intelligence training to pull the job off better than they had planned. In the end, Lara was given a position the thirteenth position in Wraith Squadron, which meant that she could only fly if another member was out of action. During this time, the part of her that was still Gara Petothel longed to return to Imperial service, and offered Warlord Zsinj the chance to use Lara to gather information about the New Republic.
Eurrsk "Grinder" Thri'ag
this Bothan male, a native of the planet Bothawui, was one of the first pilots to make the grade and serve with Wraith Squadron. Among the members of the squadron, he was known as "Grinder." He distinguished by his silvery fur, and became the squadron's code-slicer and one of the best of their practial jokers.
Jesmin Ackbar
this Mon Calamari female was one of the first pilots who served Wraith Squadron. She served as the squadron's communications officer.
Cubber Daine
this Corellian served the Alliance and the New Republic as a starfighter mechanic. He was one of the chief mechanics at Echo Base on Hoth, and was later assigned to be Wraith Squadron's mechanic when that squadron was first formed. He was often described as just under average height and just over average weight. He was a family man, and had a six-year-old daughter stationed on Folor with him
