Pur essendo mancino, Jimi Hendrix suonava una regolare Fender Stratocaster, invertendo cioè l'ordine delle corde e lasciandosi guidare dall'istinto. Era capace di produrre il feedback su certe corde mentre suonava su altre dando l'impressione che suonassero due chitarristi e facendo ampio uso di distorsori e pedale wah-wah. 

Eric Barrett fu il suo tecnico personale per tre anni e racconta.... "Abbiamo provato amplificatori Sun e Jimi li ha letteralmente bruciati, allora siamo passati ai Marshall. Jimi partì dal 75 watt per finire con 6 casse Marshall 4x12 e 4 amplificatori marshall da 100 watt". Jimi utilizzava anche chitarre gibson soprattutto per il blues. 

Passiamo ad una breve storia della sua carriera.. Dopo tre anni in cui accompagnò alcuni artisti come Little Richard e Wilson Pickett, Jimi si mise in proprio col nome di Jimmy James and the Blue Fames, fu con questo pseudonimo che venne notato da Chas Chandler bassista degli Animals che lo condusse a Londra nel 1966.  Così nacque la Jimi Hendrix Experience band. 

"Hendrix fu il padre di colore della generazione dei figli dei fiori" scrisse il Rolling stone, purtroppo il desiderio di Jimi di essere considerato e giudicato solo come musicista non si avverò mai. Jimi lasciò alla sua morte 5 album ufficiali e nastri con innumerevoli sessions molte delle quali sono state pubblicate postume senza badare alla qualità ma per arricchire le case discografiche.. Jimi infatti amava molto fare jam-sessions senza badare al fatto che il registratore girasse o no... 

I primi due album Are you experienced? e Axis bold as love registrati a Londra con gli experience (Mich Mitchell batteria e Noel Redding basso) sono splendidi, molto bello anche il terzo Electric Ladyland che presentava un gruppo molto ampio di musicisti tra cui Steve Winwood dei traffic all'organo. Altri due dischi pubblicati nel periodo sono Band of Gypsies e Cry of love album che apre la innumerevole serie dei postumi.......

 

Un bellissimo pezzo che è inserito nel secondo album Axis bold as love e di cui state ascoltando il midi (che non gli rende giustizia!!) è Little wing di cui scrivo il testo e gli accordi nei link potete trovare altri testi e spartiti di Jimi........

 

 

 

 

Though  he was left-handed, Jimi Hendrix played a normal Fender Stratocaster,reversing the order of the strings... He was able to cause the feedback on certain strings while he was playing others  giving the impression that two guitarists were playing . Jimi was famous also for the ample use of distorsions and wah-wah pedal . "Jimi also used gibson guitars to play the Blues


 After three years in which he played with other  artists like Little Richard and Wilson Pickett, Jimi began to play alone  with the name of Jimmy James and the Blue Fames, it was with this pseudonym that he was  noticed by Chas Chandler bassist of the Animals who invited Jimi in London in the 1966 . In this period  the Jimi Hendrix Experience band was formed.. 

Jimi left 5 officials album and demotapes  with a lot of sessions many of which were published after his death without taking care of the quality. Jimi  loved to play jam-sessions without taking care of the fact that the tape recorder was on  or off.. 
The first two album " Are you experienced?" and "Axis bold as love" recorded in  London with the Experience band ((Mich Mitchell Drums and Noel Redding Bass) are great,  It is very beautiful also the third  album called "Electric Ladyland " that presented a very ample group of musicians (as Steve Winwood on the Organ). 

Other two albums published in this  period are Band Gypsies and  The Cry of love which opened  a  long  serie of posthumous LPs and CDs.
