Rosco's Striking Page!
This page is all about Rosco, the corn snake (elphe guttata guttata). Corn snakes are native to the United States. They range in the southern part of the country from Florida to Texas. They're wide range makes them tollerant of many kinds of weather and also causes them to come in different colors. They're main food is small rodents or lizards, depending on where they live. In captivity, people have fallen in love with the easy-going nature of the corn snake. It is very rare to see a corn snake bite, in fact, neither of mine have ever bitten me.

Rosco today...at 3 feet! And still growing..

Rosco is only a year and a half old and is already big enough to swallow a full grown mouse. He can reach up to 4 or 5 feet in length and will live up to 20 years. Rosco is not a color mutation, he is the natural color you would find in places like Florida. He's called an Okeetee Corn snake. What you can't see in the pictures is that Rosco has a bright black and white checkered belly! He's really very pretty. He's also very calm and nice. He's never bit me or even attempted to. This is not a snake anyone should fear, he's actually a wonderful pet...clean, quiet, easy to care for, what more could you ask for?

This is Rosco's cage now. It's a 40 gallon aquarium with latches on the corners so he can't push the lid open. The reason it's so full of things is he did not like coming out into the open so I kept adding things to make him feel more secure. It kind of looks like a forest now and he does move around more so he must like it. The little plastic locks on the corners of Rosco's cage are always latched because when he was little, he escaped and was missing in the house for 2 months! Finally we found him curled up in a plant my mom had just watered in her room. He was so dehidrated that he climbed up a dresser and a TV to get to it.
