First and foremost I would recommend ANYTHING by Scott Cunningham.  His books are straightforward and easy to read.  He has a way of making you feel confident in your magickal abilities and in your religious beliefs .  The wealth of information contained in Wicca: a guide for the Solitary Practicioner alone is  all anyone would need to get started practicing wicca.
Moon Magic by DJ Conway I recommend mainly because it is a just plain beautiful book.  It's beautiful to look at and the incantations and poetry are beautiful to read.  The book is broken up into moons and has crafts and rituals for each.  Celtic Magic I recommend because; for it's price and for the size of the book,  it contains an unbelievable amount of information.
I've seen this one lovingly referred to as "Uncle Bucky's Big Blue Book".  It's a standard text for anyone seeking to learn more about Witchcraft.  In  Buckland's COMPLETE book of WITCHCRAFT Mr. Buckland can be pretty rigid in his doctrine.  Such as his assertion that a Book of Shadows must be green.  Don't let that put you off.  This book contains a wealth of information from Astral to Z.
I just can't say enough to praise this book.  If you have  children especially this book is for you.  The pictures, stories, craft ideas etc.  in Circle Round are great.  My kids and I  have had  so much fun with this book!
Ancient Ways by Pauline Campanelli was the first book about Paganism and Witchcraft I ever owned.  It was the perfect place for me to start.  Mrs. Campanelli's writing and her husband Dan Campanelli's beautiful illustrations imparted a sense of peace and Hominess that were just what I was looking for in my blossoming spirituality. Wheel of the year has the same basic concept as Ancient Ways but is broken up into individual months rather than seasons. Both books contain outlines of the celebrations crafts and traditions of the pagan year.  She tends to digress a bit here and there and things get a bit disorganized,  but the books are well worth owning.
