Outlook - Kengo Takai was a typical product of the Japanese independent scene. He was a sound worker who was trying to find his place with a persona. He was nothing special, but finally got a break in Osaka Pro when it was really hitting its stride a few years ago. In Osaka Pro, Takai took on a light-hearted character, Perro. Dressed in a giant dog suit with a big pink tongue wagging out of his mask, anyone could find this character amusing. The company's roster was filled with indy cast-offs: Mitsunobu Kikuzawa from Onita Pro, Dragon Winger from FMW, Yoshito Sugamoto from Michinoku Pro and Akinori Tsuioka from IWA. These guys were all young talents who'd yet to get their shot, but were hungry to make it. They turned into characters like Ebessan, Big Boss MA-G-MA, GAMMA and Kuishimbo Kamen. Takai is trying to follow in the footsteps of these men. All were struggling and found a niche in Osaka Pro that elevated their value and all have been booked on bigger stages with varying success. The Perro character has gotten over well and is developing its dimensions. Takai has since parted ways with Osaka Pro and hopefully he can find a place with his skills on the indy scene.
