Outlook - Shoji Nakamaki was a one of the top death match wrestlers when that style was taking off in the early 1990s. While not a particular good worker, he was willing to bleed and beat up his body in matches featuring barbed wire, thumbtacks and other gimmicks that became commonplace in the style. After the success of FMW, the death match style was popularized and it only needed bodies to get it over. Many would consider Nakamaki just that - a body. Nakamaki was a chubby journalist who broke in with Atsushi Onita's FMW. He wanted more than to work his way up the card, so he left. He jumped to W*ing, then he and others became the key players in IWA-Japan. Nakamaki did have a certain charisma though and it was he and some others that helped establish IWA-Japan as a contender to FMW. Along with Hiroshi Ono, Takashi Uwano and Tarzan Goto, Nakanishi became one of the native stars that built the company up into a real rival to FMW in the mid-90s. After a mass exodus crippled IWA-Japan, Nakamaki helped build up another new "garbage group" Big Japan. Although he was getting older and fatter, Nakamaki's name and craziness made him a key star in Big Japan's formative years. He left as a new crop of death match wrestlers were stepping up and it seemed as though his career was entering its twilight. Shoji Nakamaki wrestled a few more years doing shows for Atsushi Onita before retiring in 2003.
