Place in History - In the 1960s, lucha libre was going strong with lucha libre films and their stars carrying the business, but rising stars were still able to come in and move up. Ángel Blanco was a rudo, who like many other rudos at the time, was charismatic enough and talented enough to easy find a spot in Mexico City. As a youngster, he trained under maestro extraordinaire Diablo Velazco and cut his teeth throughout central Mexico and had great aptitude for tag wrestling. As a result, he formed a team with Dr. Wagner and the white-masked pair became a hot commodity and soon added the brilliant El Solitario and “La Ola Blanca” (The White Wave) was born. It was an unbelievable rudo trio and it brought all of them to a new level. Ángel Blanco feuded with Ray Mendoza and the two traded the NWA Middleweight Championship and hair over the next seven years. However, his biggest feud came when he and Dr. Wagner turned on El Solitario. It built in the early 1970s and culminated with Ángel Blanco losing his mask. He stayed strong though, although he was nearing forty and coming out of his prime. He, like many others, left for the UWA and rekindled some of his rivalries and programs to establish that company. Ángel Blanco contributed as best he could before focusing on the wrestling scene in Monterrey. He was a big fish in a small, although successful, pond. Then he lost his life tragically in a car accident at the age of forty-nine. Ángel Blanco is often remembered for that sad ending, similar to his greatest rival El Solitario. However, he was one of the great rudos of his day and got over big at a young age because he was so good and melded so good with his partners and opponents.
