Place in History - For those who have been able to enjoy pro-wrestling in a new way via the Internet, there are a handful of names of yesteryear who continually pop up. Brian Blair is one of those. While he has gotten some notoriety for his campaigns for county commissioner in his Florida home county, for his publication of the Smarten Up! Say it Right, a pro-wrestling jargon dictionary, it is the venomous hatred of the Iron Shiek that has recently turned Blair into a remembered character. Brian Blair was an excellent athlete whose foray into pro-wrestling took him all over the Southern United States in the late 70s and early 80s. Combining his strength, highspots and babyface looks helped Blair get over in a number of markets. Although Florida was his home territory, Blair missed the heyday of the area and perhaps that prevented him from becoming a bigger star. He enjoyed a few stints in the WWF before jumping as the company took off. Blair had teamed with other good looking babyfaces like Steve Keirn and Al Madril before joining the WWF, however he had primarily been a singles star. Too small and too average to get pushed as a single, Blair proposed hooking up with Jim Brunzell. The two had the experience, ability and chemistry to be a fantastic tag team, however Blair took their act to new hieghts by creating a gimmick. Naming themselves the "Killer Bees" and wearing black and yellow striped trunks, Blair and Brunzell quickly established themselves in the WWF. They also become noted for their "Masked Confusion" gimmick, where they would put on hoods and pull a switch on everyone but the crowd. In their four year run, the Bees never captured the WWF Tag belts, but they set their legacy in stone as a top quality babyface tag team. Blair left in `88 and did mostly small and independent shows before pursuing politics.
