Place in History - Blue Demon, alongside of El Santo, is one of the greatest superstars in lucha libre's illustrious history. His youth left him with little to lose, so he fully dedicated himself to learning lucha libre in the 1940s. He started in Monterrey as Blue Demon, a gimmick and outfit derived by his trainer. Not long after, Blue Demon was invited to Mexico City, the big time for luchadors, and the place where he would become a sensation. He got over big as a rudo and quickly moved up the card, teaming with Black Shadow as "Los Hermanos Shadow" ("The Shadow Brothers") and feuding all over Mexico with El Santo and Gory Guerrero. He eventually beat El Santo for the Welterweight title and held it throughout his peak years. A head injury in 1957 marked a turning point in Blue Demon's career. After returning, a following out with EMLL made him a free agent. This allowed him to reach a new pinnacle of success as El Santo's partner on the big screen. Although injuries had slowed him, his mainstream popularity peaked in the 1960s and he continued to work as lucha libre legend until his retirement tour in 1989. Blue Demon was involved in some memorable angles with up-and-coming rudos in his later years and helped his son, Blue Demon Jr. enter the sport. He is one of lucha libre's greatest stars from his in-ring accomplishments in the 1950s and 1960s to his popularity as an actor in the 1960s and 1970s, Blue Demon can never be forgotten.
