Place in History - In the 1940s and 1950s, a foursome of brothers became renowned as the "Dirty Duseks," the "Nebraska Riot Squad" and most commonly the "Dusek Riot Squad." A rough-and-tumble group of farmboys Rudy, Emil, Ernie and Joe (Walter never took to wrestling, although his son Frank certainly did) left a huge impact on pro-wrestling over the span of fifty years of involvement. Rudy Dusek was the trailblazer for the brothers. He started in the 1920s and became a top star who was known for his roughhouse style. Rudy was often a heel challenger to popular champions and his series with Jim Londos was profitable enough that he was able to become a major player in promoting. From 1932 to 1957, Rudy was one of the key players in the New York City wrestling scene. After achieving great success, two of his brothers followed him into the ring - Emil and Ernie. Ernie developed into the best worker of the family combining the signature rough style with the theatrics that were becoming popular at the time. While Rudy became a successful promoter, Ernie became the most widely recognized wrestler and frequently headlined for his brother in New York City. In the 1940s, tag team wrestling was becoming popular and Ernie and Emil teamed all over the country under various billings. Joe had started wrestling by this time and he frequently tagged with Emil in their home area. By the 1950s, Rudy had been edged out of promoting on the East Coast, but Joe was becoming a success promoting Omaha. He would continue to run the city for Verne Gagne before selling it off in the 1970s. Although the Duseks are frequently remembered as one of the first great tag teams with an exciting style, their contributions to pro-wrestling were much more varied and significant than that.
