Place in History - Pat Roach was an excellent judo player in his youth and like several of Britian's best he found himself mixed up in pro-wrestling, in which he also excelled. Roach was a giant man when he broke into the sport by working his way up through the carnivals in the late 50s. He quickly built a reputation for himself. Aside from being a hard-hitting powerhouse, Roach was well-conditioned, quick and agile, unlike most British heavyweights. Roach worked with many of the well-known stars of British wrestling and established his star on television and film. First was the Auf Wiedersehen, Pet series on which he played Brian "Bomber" Busbridge and rose to fame. He began using the "Bomber" handle in the ring, where he become a top star. On the big screen, Roach became one of the most accomplished wrestler-turned-actors ever. He landed some major parts in Never Say Never Again (1983 James Bond film), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Conan the Destroyer and all three of the Indiana Jones films. Roach became a star and remained dedicated to pro-wrestling even after its demise in Britian. He continued to work independent shows and promoted before bowing out in the 90s. Roach published his memoirs in two parts before his death from throat cancer in 2004.
