Place in History - Four of the Welch siblings had descendents who had varying degrees of success in pro-wrestling. From Roy’s son Buddy Fuller to Bonnie’s sons the Fields brothers, it seemed as if the Welch kin were destined for big things. Lester Welch, the youngest and best worker of the Welchs, had two sons - Jack and Roy Lee. The two brothers, like Ron and Robert Fuller at approximately the same time, followed their father around, learning the ropes, tagging up successfully and helping run the office. While Jack Welch never did much , Roy Lee had a little more promise. A very talented worker, Roy Lee was one of the main workers who helped the Atlanta office after Ann Gunkel split and formed a rival company. As his father and uncle rebuilt Georgia, Roy Lee was contributing behind the scenes. Roy Lee, who essentially copied his father’s successful Oklahoma cowboy gimmick, found success in Alabama and Tennessee working for family members. Although he lacked the babyface charisma of his father, Roy Lee was a good promo and a very good color commentator. In Continental, Roy Lee found a new lease on life when he made a heel turn and became the “King of Wrestling” with a crown and everything. This allowed Welch to turn his slower working style and smug mic work into a box office success. Feuding with hot babyfaces like Tim Horner and Tom Pritchard, Roy Lee Welch had the best run of his career after working for nearly fifteen years. After that run, Welch continued to work here and there, but as the pro-wrestling territories dried up, so did the opportunities. Although Roy Lee Welch can be plugged in as one of the forgotten members of the successful Welch/Fuller/Fields/Golden family, he contributed in the ring and behind the scenes in a meaningful way for two decades.
