Place in History - El Solitario's life in lucha libre was so full and exceptional that his death at a young age didn't hamper his legend. He grew up poor, but escaped that life by pursuing lucha libre like his older brother (who died in the ring). After struggling to climb the ranks as a teenager, he finally got his break with the gimmick, El Solitario. Soon after he was called to Mexico City, then he moved up and things busted up when he took the hair of the legendary Ray Mendoza. At only 18, he was a top flight worker and getting pushed hard by the biggest company in Mexico. After becoming a tecnico, Solitario become one of the most popular stars in the country and soon after left EMLL to work the independents with his star power. He feuded with all the stars, all over Mexico, but it was his lengthy feud with former partner Dr. Wagner that was his most famous. El Solitario also made several trips to Japan and stops in Los Angeles, where he was able to garner some international fame. Several months after the match with Wagner, Solitario died under mysterious circumstances. No matter what the cause, the wrestling world was robbed of one of its greatest stars and workers. El Solitario's skyrocketing career is often eclipsed by his sudden death, but his place in lucha libre is undeniable as one of its top stars, top workers and most influential characters.
