Striking - A good striker for the most part, Yuki Kondo's fast hands and aggressive, almost reckless at times, approach has made him a top light heavyweight. This comes from a solid background in kempo karate. Nearly half Kondo's wins come from strikes and he does have KO power in both his punches and his kicks. Kondo is good in the clinch with a lot of knees to the legs as well as knees and punches to the body. When he finds himself on top, Kondo becomes cautious with his groundwork including his striking. His GNP is usually punching that don't do great damage but look good to judges. When he finds himself on his back, he's much more aggressive and uses a lot of distracting strikes.

Wrestling - An area that Kondo really needs to develop. While his sprawl is good, it should be better since he prefers to stand and strike with most of his opponents. He does have good balance and can avoid takedowns, but not consistantly. If he gets top position, he tends to be a slow worker and will just punch from where he is, rather than getting better positions. Underneath, he is active and good defensively, however he won't win a fight from there.

Hooking - Yuki Kondo certainly has submission knowledge, so his capabilities and defense are sound. He's submitted some strong Pancrase fighters and foreigners, but does not seem to have a preference to it. Kondo will use whatever is presented to him, but often goes for them when he seems most in trouble. So, submissions seem to be more of a "Plan B" for him. His appplication is also slow and he can be stalemated by anyone with a good defense.

Strengthes - Kondo is a typical top Pancrase fighter, he's well-rounded and can provide a challenge for any top ranking fighter in his weight class and even above that. If he's not held down, Kondo is a very exciting fighter, who often comes out blazing. This proven to be an exciting and successful approach as about half of his wins have been related to striking and many of them are in the opening minutes of the round (or match). Kondo has great stamina and can recooperate quickly, so he is always dangerous early on in rounds.

Weaknesses - Though he is thought of in high regard, Yuki Kondo is a very defeatable fighter. If his aggressive flurry early on can be weathered and he is taken down than he looks ineffective. His groundwork is weak enough that a good grappler can stalemate his GNP or outclass him if he's underneath. Kondo really lacks the one great strength that sets him apart. Though his striking is usually considered his best area, he is not on the level his record might imply.

Outlook - One of the best Japanese fighters of recent years, Yuki Kondo embodies many of the qualities that people expect out of quality Japanese. He's exciting, tough and has a deceptive amount of talent. While Pancrase has been largely viewed and used as a feeder company for Pride and many of its native stars have been sacrificed and he'd probably like to avoid that. Kondo has major star potential, but whether or not Pride will waste him is yet to be seen.
